Windscreen Replacement

Post by swamp donkey » Tue Aug 25, 2009 9:37 pm

Hi Guys.

Im in Aberdeen. Just got a huge stonechip on my 05 Exige.

Can anyone recommend a decent place in my area to get it replaced? Is the Lotus windscreen replacement specialized in any way?

cheers

I presume that you have windscreen Insurance with a £75 excess which is the norm?

If so your Insurance Company will deal with one of the main Windscreen companies who will replace it.

As tut says your insurance company will probably have a preferred supplier. If that happens to be RAC Auto Windscreens then I'd be using their Dundee branch rather than Aberdeen... I don't think its the easiest job ever and involves removing or at least loosening off the clam.

I've just had my screen replaced(last month) by ScotGlass (inverurie). They came to the house to do it as I took the front clam off for them(was doing other jobs too). I missed them doing the job but they were in an out in 20min according to missus. They did a fantastic job, very tidy.

I had called autoglass etc in ABZ and they said they didn't really want to do it(they then refered me to Scotglass) as they'd just take the car to Murray motors to strip it(not that thats really required on the S1). But then I contacted Murray Motors an they said thay would not touch the car and just let the windscreen fitters just get on with it???? ) PLUS I was quoted £1000 for the job............aye right.
Didn't really want some autoglass monkey raggin my car to edinburgh hence I told them thanks but no thanks.

Was all done for ~£400 inc VAT. So a £50 payment via insurance.

Hope this helps.

Scotglass did N1 about six years ago. Next day there was a stress fracture so they had to fit another.

They swore they would never do another Elise after that, but obviously changed their minds.
