also this, does anyone know the car being in edinburgh, millage is just a touch high for me. but he's got a hard top. loved the hard top on my last car.

Means it has been crashed, then written off, then repaired. Not cheap enough if you ask me at 9k. Not unusual as fibreglass only damage can be enough to write off an S1. I wouldnt bother unless it was sub 7k (there was a cat D s1 on autotrader for 6k last week)

I dunno, u gotta damage a LOT of the fibre glass to write off even a '99 car (like mine). I'd avoid, 'sounds' like he's bein honest but some info's def missing there.

2nd one sounds/looks good, but not enuff info tho. Hardtop only makes a £5/600 difference and are failry easy to get so don't let it sway you.

If your going to look at an S1 I'd try an take a S1 SEer with you! There's a LOT of things that 'should' of been done to a '99 S1 that will tell you much about the kinda care the car has had.

Category codes are as follows.
the key thing to remember though is that the codes are Insurance industry codes so the coding is in relation to cost of repair NOT damage althogh one generally follows the other though not always. A clam on a new elise would not cause a cat C/D but on a 97 it could.


Category A: SCRAP
Where a vehicle has been destroyed by fire or so badly damaged, destroyed or deformed that it has no commercial salvageable parts, or the vehicle has been involved in a flood over seat level. The vehicle must be decontaminated and then the bodyshell crushed. These vehicles will not appear in any of our auctions.


Category B: BREAKER
Where a vehicle has sustained serious damage, is beyond economical repair and cannot be safely repaired. The vehicle should not be repaired but sold for parts only to authorised breakers / dismantlers. These vehicles can be purchased by authorised breakers / dismantlers at any of our Breaker auctions.


Category C: REPAIRER
A vehicle where the repairs are assessed by the inspecting engineer as, exceeding the pre-accident market value. These vehicles are repairable and can be purchased at any of our Salvage auctions.


Category D: REPAIRER
Where the cost of repairs do not exceed the value of the vehicle but either the insurer or the insured does not want to repair the vehicle. These vehicles are repairable and can be purchased at any of our Salvage auctions.

Small point; That is the standard 111s spoiler. The 160 sport spoiler stands a wee bit taller, on little stands.
