BBC iPlayer on Wii

Post by Peter76 » Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:53 am

Maybe i'm just way behind the times but i just found out that i can get iPlayer on my Wii console! I'd been looking for ways to stream programmes from my PC down to the TV in the living room and got a message from Nintendo last week when i switched the Wii on to say that an updated version of iPlayer was now available on the Wii. Only watched a couple of programmes so far and attempted to watch the Impression Show yesterday but kept getting 'not enough bandwidth to play without interruption message', so i guess i'm still evaluating, but i'm well chuffed i can use the Wii for this. :D

Just thought i would share this (behind the times faction!)

Thanks for info.

I did try the iPlayer through the Wii ages ago, but it was a bit poor, something to do with an old version of shockwave or something.
Good news if they have updated it, will try it out.

I use the iPlayer on the PS3... but at least now I know it's available for Wii also.
Pity I can't find a way to get Spotify working through either though.... :(

It's much better now, still VHS quality, but at least its full screen and watchable.

Need to download the app through the store, if you go through the internet browser you still get the ropey poor version.

I-Player icon on the PS3 XMB as long as you sign up to the PS Network (free). Also get Youtube XL so some quality viewing on the big screen.Sat and watched Hong Kong Fooey @ the weekend with the kids, quality :D Our newer Samsung series 6 has that new fandangled DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) so just need the wireless usb stick and I can stream from my pc or any other device that has DLNA embedded like mobile phones, digital cameras tec. Worth looking out for if you buying a new TV or other electronic device.

Works fine on mine. You could try MAC filtering to stop the leacher.

Blast from the past, but I downloaded a 14 day free trial of Jamcast today to get a solution to the Spotify->PS3 hurdle.
Spotify is now streaming from my PC to the PS3 :thumbsup Took 2 mins to complete the minimum set it up & it's working very well indeed.
I think I'll be paying the $29 USD 1-off payment to purchase it at the end of the free trial.

Andy.

I use iPlayer on the Wii and PS3. A while ago I discovered that software produced by Elgato enables me to stream all my media to my PS3. I use Elgato EyeTv together with USB tuners to watch and record Freeview programmes on my Macs. Works really well and has loads of export options. Then while looking through the Elagto EyeTV manual I came across EyeConnect. Installed this on my Macs and hey presto, all my Videos, Photos, Music and TV recordings on my my Macs can now be viewed on HDTV via my PS3.

Use the iPlayer through a FreeSat HD box, streamed via the Sonos - you can watch the programmes in HD :thumbsup

This week I have mostly been watching Lip Service
