CAR TAX HELP

I've just tried to find my insurance certificate to go and tax my car tomorrow and can't find it.

I know I can apply and pay for this online and wait on the disc coming through and that's not a problem.

The question is though, what if I get stopped before the disc comes through, which will obviously be next week now.

Do i carry around a print out of the payment I made on line to the DVLA? Will that be sufficient? Do I have so many days grace in which to get a new tax disc before a fine?

Thanks for any advice.

I think they give you a weeks grace ~this was extended recently when the postal strike was on
So long as its taxed on line it should show up as taxed on the data base that the number plate recognition camera use.
The last time I taxed mine in October after midnight on Mon morning it arrived in the post 2 days later on Wed top work :thumbsup DVLA

I put a note on the dash and kept a printout of the recipt for payment with me just in case

Many thanks. Phoned police just in case. They advised they give 5 working days so will do as you said just in case.

Of course in reality there is no grace period - however, they're unlikely to pounce on you in the first week.

That said, the fine would be minor anyway (failure to display is different from not having bought a tax disc).

That reminds me, I still have to put the disc I bought in August on the car :-)

Cheers,
Robin

I think the fine only applies if the car is parked (or used) on a public road :-)

Yup - £60 for parked, up to £1000+back fines for being driven. (decided by DVLA)

Plus cut their nuts off if they do not have road tax.
