Had my best evening ever at KH tonight, dry track, excellent driving manners etc. My first time on the "new" track and I was sh*t but Simon (I think) was good enough to take me out for a couple of laps which speeded me up no end (and entertained me a fair bit too). Thanks to Simon (love the fact he has carpets in the footwells to give it that aura of luxury, and the furious poping noises it makes following him into Duffus sp?).

Had a fabulous final session chasing Alan then him chasing me, both of us in similar cars and depsite different lines on some corners damn near identical speeds.

Thouroughly enjoyed myself (as you can probably tell) only down side was the poor sod in the Megablade whose engine siezed, punting him into the pit lane wall about half way through the session he was fine though butthe car is not.

Was a good night, with some nice driving and good manners all round. Would def be keen to attend a CE night again.

The westfield took a heavy hit against the wall, glad the guy was ok, spoke to him on the way out and he didnt think there was too much damage Seemed to take a heavy hit tho - would be surprised if it got away that lightly???

Anyone know who was taking the pics at the bottom of duffus?

Heading off to review the incar footage - definately a few lessons to be learned after tonight

Totally agree , excellent evening . Frustrated at my poor driving at the start but realised I was trying to hard and improved half way . Broke my gravel trap cherry which was an experience not to be repeated . Luckily no obvious damage.

The laps at the end where great , I had to let you past on the way home Pete after a lecture from my pax about no gravel traps on public roads .

Came away from Knockhill with a big smile on my face and my pax enjoyed it to.

I guessed it was your pax giving you gyp We weren't even going that fast!

Got a call from my Uncle, who's car it is to say what an awesome eveing it was!

You weren't sh*t! Had to work to catch you! Great fun last night.

My carpets are ace aren't they? Those are the warranty footwell ones - rubbish - they don't stay put and I have worn through them with my heels on the driver's side. The rubber mats looked way better, just a pity your floor disolves if you keep them.

To be honest it is so long since I did a track event that I had forgotten how much fun they were. I now have an urge to try somewhere else other than Kames (which although close and a laugh is - well let's just say it is what it is) and KH. Where else can I try? Anyone know what E Fortune is like or how often it operates?

I really have a hankering to do Brands but it is effing miles away.

EF is out at the moment, due to some complaining about the noise levels!

Shame as we had an awesome day there earlier in the year.

Yeah I think I read the hillclimbs idea. Great idea in theory but this is where the reality kicks in, and I remember that the only way I can get the time to do this sort of thing is if I stop work but then I will have to live in my car. And if I am going to do that it would need to be bigger. And cheaper. A lot cheaper. And more likely to be the sort of car to slow lorries down in the crawler lane than be the sort to actually race up a hill. I'll also have difficulty explaining it to Mrs pete:

"You mean you want a career change"
"Not really a career change, more just messing about with cars instead of working. They'll be racing though."
"For prizes? Which will pay the electric and for food?"
"Errr no."
"Well no you can't do it then."
"OK."

Well like that but with more shouting and gnashing of teeth.


So I'll have to keep working to pay for the house and the cars, in which case I doubt I'll have time to be entering any motorsport competitions, appealling as the idea sounds... And I bet they are all on the bloody east coast

(Over Christmas I convinced myself I was going to start doing rallies, until I went back to work and remembered how little time I get.
Although to be fair if I had spent the time I wasted looking at cars for sale on the net actually buying a car and driving it I'd be world champion by now.

Well Kilmarnock champion anyway.

OK I'd still be sh*t and not champion of anywhere but I'd have a rally car and I would have probably got round to painting my name on the side;Which would be cool )

Having been to hill climbs at doune a few years back not sure I would fancy taking the car up there - the walls and the trees seem VERY close !

At least at KH if you get it wrong you have some run off areas!

I've seen photos now and it does look a bit tight. But you'd just be careful*. NO stop that train of thought I don't have the time (see previous post). Anyway someone who has already trashed their car would win, there is still paint on mine**.

You have to go to Oulton Park at least once and Croft too ...

Right. I could probably manage Oulton especially as it is near my folks.
Mrs pete is off to Africa next week on safari. With her mate. Leaving me to babysit.

You are quite right. I did the Scottish Sprint and Hillclimb Championships last year, including four days at Doune.

It did help that my body and paint work was not immaculate, as I went through the undergrowth at East Brae a couple of times, and bounced off the Armco at Esses, but I still set a new Class Record in both the wet and the dry.

It is imtimidating at first to drive quickly, you have to be flat out on the first part of the climb to be competitive, and that is on completely blind corners, but of course you can take it easier and still enjoy it.

Some of the drivers I was against could drive it blindfolded they had done it so often, which is why I probably preferred the Sprints as a newbie as I could see the track and was not at such a disadvantage.

The main thing though is to enjoy it, especially the camaradrie of the other competitors, although at the end of the day I was always going all out to win.
