Where can you get a decent steak in Dundee? NLC

Post by Victor Meldrew » Fri Jan 22, 2010 10:06 pm

We have managed to get a babysitter sorted and are having a day out at the cinema.

Can anyone recommend a decent place to get a steak in Dundee?
Well it moves... might as well make the most of it....

John, without any doubt, here http://www.bonappetit-dundee.com/ but I see they are closed between 18th & 24th January for renovations.

Amazing steaks (it's how they're cooked) and SWMBO always has whatever seafood dish is on special.

The owners come and have a chat about the menu and france if you wish which sounds odd but is actually OK cos they're a nice couple, they are local but used to live in france.

Putting it another way, if I don't book for Valentine's Day, I can expect my cock on a block :D

Is that instead of the steak?

Actually, I might know a place in Dundee that would do that for you ;)

Doubt it, far more than a mouthful.

Oh, and Sanjoy, funny you mention Robertsons...

They were the finest butchers in Dundee and supplied Bon Appetit but through various means, went bust, but have since been bought over.

The restaurant now uses the longest serving butcher in the area (100yrs plus iirc) which I know is very good cos it's just down the road from me 8)

Having recommended a few people there, since I have had a few great meals there, however the people i recommended, and another group said it was average to below average - maybe staffing issues those nights, and the food was not getting full attention.

One of my many plans for improving Dundee would be an AWESOME Argentinian steak house, probably ideally situated on Whitehall Crescent - so people come to know that if you want top notch meat - burger or steak - then you go there.....
Worried though that it would be lost on Dundonians, and appeal to a very small minority, who appreciate great meat.

Anyway Victor, you could indeed just go to Papa Joes, it is laid back, and quality is always good i find. Large selection and plenty of meat. Alternatively, try The Italian, probably one of my favourite Dundee restaurants.

Decent steak in Dundee? not really many top restaurants in Dundee.

I'm pretty handy with the old gridle tho.

Had the best steak of my life in Qatar in a restaurant in the Ramada hotel. £46 just for the steak and £5 for 6 chips but it was pretty good!

Do you live in the Blackness area or do I have a different best butcher in Dundee that's one of the oldest in mind?

I like this place, worth the detour off the M-way on the way up the road.

SE had lunch here a few years ago, but it changed a lot since then.
