Bought another Lotus..............................(NLC!)

Post by dlogan » Sun Jan 31, 2010 1:04 pm

......................coloured car.

Storm Titanium it is. With Mulberry red leather.

Collected yesterday and had a fantastic dry drive home (to dundee, left it there due to ABZ weather), taking it very easy, but a good 200 miles or so to get used to it. The long throttle pedal (Peter Wheelers traction control  ) is a great tool but when you whang it to the floor its a real flyer, and sounds insane.

"So thats how you get in"

For those interested. TVR Tuscan Red Rose. 4 litre Straight Six. 380bhp. 21k miles. Recent new just about everything (tyres, shocks, radiator, clutch, engine rebuild by str8six., bushes) and in rather nice condition. Hard to think its a 7 y old car. The creativity that TVR came up with on the Tuscan design more than 10yrs ago is incredible. The machined parts on interior the styling, the roof removal and storage, and the engine, for all its "slaters" for an inhouse engine is a great piece of kit.

Total contrast to a Caterham or Lotus in its "drive" but a great sense of occasion. Ride is good with uber sharp 1.7turn lock to lock steering. I thought I would struggle with a full floor mounted pedal box, but no, a few miles and its the norm, I find it so much easier as less likely to slip off pedals etc.
After two lotus and two Caterham 7s, it was tim to go back to another blackpool rocket. Just sitting in it smelling the plastic and glue is evocative of the old Griff I had. I have done soooo much research I feel I know the car inside out, but am sure there is loads still to learn. I reckon I am as prepared as I can be. 12 month warranty helps, as well as the back-up and knowledge that HHC supplied and maintained it since new.

Please, no reliability jokes, they are a tad tedious :thumbsup and remember, I have owned Lotus before, so I know all about low volume british sportscar build quality.

Beautiful! The 12 month warranty must allow you to sleep better at night Dave, can you renew it year on year?!

You are a brave man, and one as I have said already - very jealous of!!!

i cannot wait to hear and see it at knockers.

Dave

As said above Dave, beautiful car and one that I could well have ended up with if it had not been for the Elise. Awesome sounding exhaust from that straight six.

No reliability jokes, I hope it does not see a garage other than for servicing, and the twelve month warranty is a real bonus. Does it cover everything, or would it be worth taking out AA P&L as well for the first year, as I am sure you would be doing from year two?

Likewise I hope you are planning to take it to KH, and not just to the car park.

The warranty is a full gold warranty for mechanical failure. Usual wriggle out clauses but will cover anything sudden. As much piece of mind as you can physically get on a TVR. I have more confidence in that the engine had a new block and everything updated and replaced in 2007 at great expense. That makes me happier. I have also set aside a "budget" so I dont get upset when its serviced/ needs work. I believe you can renew year on year on the warranty.

Funnily enough my insurance is transferred over from the 7, and still includes TD cover, but after running pretty much the ultimate track car in the 240hp SLR 7, I am fearful I will be dissapointed in the on track performance in terms of handling and brakes, especially at KH.

I have been getting nudged to do the TVR Zolder trip in summer though, that sounds appealing. 8)

Very nice. Tuscan has been on my want list for quite a while after having brief ownership of an S1 (2.8 Ford engine job), but I bottled out & when Lotus.
Still on the want list though... that or a T350T.

These seem to have appreciated in value a fair bit. A few years ago, you could get a ropey one for under £10K.... not now.

Forgot to say that you would buy one for the interior alone.

I never fail to look inside one and drool whenever I get the chance. Were all Tuscans convertibles? Cowan Scott whom I bought N3 from has one, and it had a storable roof panel. Another interior shot.

The Tuscans were all "convertibles". the mark1 has a removable targa panel and the rear plastic screen comes out. So its more a targa I suppose.

The last of the Tuscans had the option of "full convertible" with the fabric roof, removable targa panel and collapsible rear section.

The interior is a fine place to sit, thats for sure.

Love it. I went to buy a Tuscan 2S last year but no headroom and I couldn't get my knees under the dash. :(

Foooking fast though! 0-100 in 7.something, and it felt like it! It pulled in 3rd like an Elise does in first. Mental.

Enjoy! 8) 8) 8)
