Brian Jamieson - Fund

Post by Dominic » Thu Feb 18, 2010 4:17 pm

Further to the very sad news of Brian passing away; ( http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... =2&t=24571 ) there have been a few suggestions of organising some flowers / donations. Having had a few conversations with some SE'rs Tut has come back with the following thoughts from Linda;
tut wrote:As regards to flowers or Charity donations for the funeral, Linda has come up with a brilliant idea as there will be flowers galore and she would like any donations kept within S_E in memory of Brian.

What she has suggested is that we set up a fund and buy a cup that would be awarded to someone at KH for a category that we would decide ourselves. She suggested something along the lines of best dressed driver for starters, as Brian used to turn up immaculately dressed from work many times, anything so as not to miss a trackday. We could do this for each KH meet and a special one for tt 2010, and change the theme each time so that it was passed around. Depending on the amount raised we could award a prize as well, and drink to him in June with champagne which was one of his favourites. He sent me a case of Magnums before tt 2005, typically Brian, but alas they have all gone.

I would think everyone will be happy with her idea, but I would be grateful if someone with more know how than me could arrange the best method for sending donations. I think something along the lines of the Amp3 Charity day would be best using PayPal or similar. Dom just pm'd me and offered to arrange flowers or Charity along with Shug, so perhaps the two of you could handle that side for me as you probably have the experience.

tut
I have looked into setting up a just giving page, however this would not work due to the requirement to have a registered charity to nominate for the donations. So our other option is to set up a paypal account to collect the donations. This would need to be attached to someone's credit or debit card. While I am happy to take this on, I am reluctant to have the donations account attached to my personal accounts, and there is also the charge paypal would make against each transaction. If anyone has a suggestion how we can organise this more effectively, please speak up now. If not we can run with the paypal plan.

Dom, as I am well on track with tt 2010 planning and am used to dealing with 100 or more transactions, I could take this on, but preferably via EFT transfers for the majority, though I can handle cheques for those still in the stone age.

I have a PayPal account, but probably the best bet would be our deposit account that is hardly used now that Verian has stopped teaching, I use online banking so no prob with managing it.

ps the donation amount would not be known to anyone other than myself if we took that route, and as it is now between ourselves, it could be as little as anybody wished to give, as it really is the thought that matters in this instance, and the numbers as opposed to the amount.

Hi Tut,

That would be great. Let me know what I can do to help out - organising trophies etc.

Don't see an issue mate if you're happy posting account details. Pretty sure everyone knows you're about as trustworthy as it comes.

Many thanks for offering.

Shug, can anybody read a post on the Forum even if they are not registered?

I was going to put a post to the tuttowers Yahoo Group with a link, as many of them would have known Brian from there.

Tut,

My good wife (who works in RBS) has just pointed out the security risk of posting your details. She has suggested removing your address from the post. If needed peeps can PM for the postal address. :thumbsup

Thanks Dom, Ed has edited it out.

There should be no problem with the bank details, sort codes and account numbers are passed around freely nowadays as are credit card details for online shopping, and money can only go into it, not be taken out.
