well took her out today for the first time and have mixed feelings. Snug and cosy cockpit which i was not expecting. Gearbox annoying at low speed but sensational when pushing on. Steering sublime probably the best i have experiencad. Not much grip though even after warming the tyres. Do you guys have experience of these semi slick yokohomos do they only work above a certain temperature ? cheers, Simon

Semi slicks dont work on cold, gritted roads. They will only work properly on track, you cant get them hot enough on the road unless you drive like an utter twat, even then they will only just be warm.

Pressures will probably be off also. 22/24 cold used to work well for me. :thumbsup

Those tyres have an awesome amount of grip, in most weather conditions. Is the Geo set up correctly?

(for track work you'll want the pressures even lower)

Re: grip, what are you expecting vs. what is happening?

The R tyres are very soft and so will work better than most tyres even when cold, though of course they will work better once warmed up.

They don't work well on loose surfaces - the roads down here in Edinburgh are pretty dusty at the moment as this is the first prolonged dry spell we've had since last year, so this may well be what's going on.

The other thing is that they don't much like being frozen, so depending on how your tyres were stored over winter, you may find that they're knackered, or need a good thrashing to grind off the harder rubber on the outside layer.

Keep it on the black stuff!!!

Cheers,
Robin

Also how old are the tyres. 48s need about 50-100 miles to scrub in. :thumbsup

When the tyres are up to temperature they are very good and if they are new they will require a bit of scrubbing it. I was the same when I got my 2-11, you just have to get some time in it

cheers guys great advice, the tyres are quite new i think so tht might be the problem combined with salt on the roads. will check the tyre pressures and keep an eye on them and if that fails get the geo looked at. as i will be using the car mainly as a road car, do you think it would be worth swapping the tyres over for some more road orientated ones to get the best out of the car on the road ? cheers, Simon

48R's will better any road tyre on road and track, especially in the dry and even in the wet as long as they have plenty of tread left.
