At the roadworks both sides of the forth bridge they are going to start using speed cameras in the 30 zones.

See here for more details!

On the west coast I noticed that there is an average speed gantry a mile west of the Kingston bridge on the west to east carriageway.

Strangely they only seem to have one :? so I assume that it is not on-line yet.

Quote from article "Sergeant David Wilson, of Lothian and Borders road policing department, said: "The 30 miles per hour speed limit has been in place for several weeks now, unfortunately there are still motorists who are choosing to ignore it.

"The reason the limit is in place is to protect the construction workers primarily....."

Reading that I'll presume they are working 24/7 on the roadworks or that the speed "limit" will not be enforced when no workers are working.

Yea right

Actually on the south bound side the 30mph limit is absolutely required at least until after the slip road joining from the roundabout above the road - the visibility from the coned off slip road joining onto the A90 is very poor and a crash is inevitable if people continue to blitz the road works.

On the north bound side, the speed limit may not be required during the evenings, though really with the narrower lanes it should at least be restricted to 50 I think.

The main problem is without doubt the jerks that continue to fly through at 80 - if everyone were to treat it as a 40 say I suspect there wouldn't be that much attention from PC (David) Bailey.

Having scouted the road last night I couldn't see where they were going to put their camera van - at least for the south bound traffic - the 30 section doesn't start until under the roundabout so you can do 50 up to that point and there aren't any bridges after that to park their van on. I guess they could catch north bound traffic, but the bridge is on a bend on that side.

I don't suppose it would be safe to park their van in the working area of the road works, so I think this could be a scare tactic as much as anything. TBH I don't know why they haven't deployed SPECS - for 14 months it would surely pay for itself?

Cheers,
Robin

Saw the scamera van on the A90 for the first time tonight.

It was on the south bound side, but after the roadworks! I was coming north at about 6.30, and the van was opposite from where the 30 limit starts on the north bound side, so I guess that is where the temporary crash barrier on the southbound side ends, just as the road bends to the left, and shortly before the end of the 30 limit.

Very sneaky - no sign of workmen, van not in the actual roadworks section, and placed just after a bend.

Of course it's all about safety, and not revenue generation. :x
