Anybody noticed the drop in the past two weeks from $86 to $69 yesterday?

About to order CH oil so hoping the price drop will work through.

"Price drop will work through"....Aye right , We have derv prices at the pumps here in Pencaitland at £1.25lt , wee trick I've found over the last few months my old Jeep runs fine on Cosco (new)veg oil with 20lts for £14.00. Smells like a chipshop but runs just as well ( if not better) as derv knocking out av 29mpg.

Never noticed that but I did notice some garages down south charging 1.29 per litre for standard unleaded at the weekend

just been filling up the 430 all weekend at £1.29.

And just got in to the Rangie to find it on refill.

Unfortunately the pound has dropped against the dollar from 1.55 to 1.45 in the same time so if any drop does filter through it wont be as much as you'd expect.

Yes Tut, and I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the energy companies are now mailing / contacting existing customers trying to entice them into a 2 year fixed rate at slightly less than everyone is on now. They anticipate that the price of oil / gas etc will be going down dramatically so if they sign their customers up on fixed rates just now they'll make a killing when it drops.

We would have more supply if they could get the knack of pumping it into a pipe rather than into the sea.

I have just sat on a business panel judging new start businesses for grant funding; one of them was selling bio-deisel. Very interesting. Any deisel car can run on it without modification, and it is (supposidly) kinder to the engine than ordinary deisel. At 89p per litre, this may require some consideration, as both our Discovery & Astra are oil burners.

Has anyone every tried this stuff? Is there any long term damage that can be done?

The guy told me that VW Audi group warantees are now okay with you using this stuff. May even give better MPG (esp on older cars) and no performance loss.

I'm running my mechanical turbo diesel vw transporter on 80% rapeseed (veg) oil/20% diesel - was buy one get one free at Tesco last week so bought 200L should keep me going for a while - works out at 42p/L

Watch the costco stuff it's usually soya based which isn't as good for some engines apparently.

I actually think my engine does run quieter and smoother with the veg mix. You need to check what make your fuel pump is on at lot of the VAG stuff - the bosch units are fine but Lucas pumps can't handle the extra pressure as the veg oil is thicker - this leads to seals breaking etc.

One benefit of being on holiday in Florida and getting stuck there, fuel $2.80 a gallon

I have a 2nd cousin (or something) in Australia doing the very same thing. He's currently making a killing. It's certainly an intersting option.

Bio Diesel is not the same thing as Veg oil.

An officially recognised bio diesel will have to go through tests and have to comply to some standard rating. It will probably be a mixture of diesel and possibly veg or rapeseed oil etc.

Some engines/pumps work fine on neat virgin veg oil, e.g Jeep, toyota, others work better on used (ex chip-shop etc) veg oil. Some need heaters etc for the oil to keep it viscous. I suspect most veg oil users use a mix of veg oil and diesel. Often the main problem is the fuel pump.

If you use veg oil (new or used) you still need to inform the customs and excise man and pay the fuel duty on it.

I believe the original engine designed by doctor Diesel was designed to run on peanut oil.

Rubbish

Not all cars can run on it you need to check carefully as most diesels use the fuel as a lubricant in the injection pump and bio diesel is not very slippy and can destroy a modern fuel pump in seconds if it hasn't been designed for it.

But the boat anchor in the disco can run on damn near anything

I think you're ok for the first 2000 ltrs per year?

I was told that you are allowed to use up to 2000 litres a year without paying duty on it. You are supposed to keep a log to produce if challenged but you don't need to inform them otherwise.
