Falkland Performance Ctr.

Post by renmure » Sun Jul 02, 2006 6:53 pm

I took the exige to Falkland Performance Centre last week for its MOT. It failed on a few niggly things including emissions, headlight alignment, dead fog lamp etc. It was going to take them a few hours to get things sorted out and get it all re-tested since they had quite a few other cars in for work. The solution... Since I live about 60 miles away they suggested I took one of their cars for the day and headed home and return at my convenience the next day and pick up the car. I went back the next day, the car was sitting waiting for me. I got a full and detailed chat about what had been done and what they had seen when it was up on the ramps. I paid the very reasonable bill (including labour at 36 quid/hr) and left as a happy customer (yet again!).

The previous week I took the 111R to MMC for its 1st A-Service. I had originally wanted to take it the previous week but since I had requested a courtesy car for the 4 hours they were unable to fit me in since none were available. I made sure when booking the service that I needed to leave Edinburgh at 2pm. I took the car into them at the time they requested and again confirmed that I needed to be away by 2pm. After dropping my car off I got a courtesy car which was running on petrol vapour so needed to get to a petrol station asap. Went back for my car for 2pm and sat waiting till 2.30 till they had finished. I then got asked, "did I want to wait for the car to be washed and valeted?" *&@##%!!!! I paid the bill (including labour charge at 80 quid/hr) and left as an unhappy customer (yet again!)

Hi Jim,

Interesting. Im looking to pick up a 111R early next year (if not earlier). I am a bit worried about the lack of Lotus specialist in the area.

I talked to Falklands a while back and they mentioned it would be no problem to service a 111R. Glad things worked out ok for you there.

MMC prices seem a little steep to me hence im looking for alternatives.

Will keep an eye on the forum just incase anything else pops up.

Cheers
Scott

Hi Scott,
I would have no hesitation in recomending Falkland as the place to go to service your car. They are the place I take the exige to and I shall be going there with the esprit also. Since my elise is still under waranty I feel obliged (perhaps wrongly) to take it to a main dealer. A few others on the forum have used Falkland and I havent read anything other tthan positive to date.

You aren't obliged to take it to MMC. Lotus recommend you use a main dealer but they can't invalidate your warranty if you take it elsewhere and they use the same parts.

Not a discussion I really want to go into in public. I am sure you can speak to Alan at Falkland next time you are there about the advice I was given from MMC.
