I am leaving France to visit Scotland in 10 days.
So if you see a blue Elise S1, plate N° XXXX GZ 90 : it's me.

Where are the most beautiful roads / landscapes in your beautiful country?


I came Twice (not with Liz') and I'm now coming back for the third time but this time it's camping with Liz'.

North West taking the coastal route up the west towards Ullapool and then Durness is my favourite, I am sure we can suggest quite a few for you.

Dont be surprised if a few S_E'ers use this as an excuse to go for a run and join you

Yup prob best grab the autoroute files for the last couple of Tut towers and also some telephone numbers of locals should you have any problems.

My recommendation would be along the lines of;

Presuming you are arriving from the South:

Glasgow to Lochgilphead A82/A83.

Lochgilphead to Fort William via Oban and Glencoe, A816, A85, A82. (dilema on this one but added loop through Glencoe, 'cause it has to be done!)

Fort William to Kyle of Lochalsh A82, A87.


Option of drive round Isle of Skye.

Kyle to Ullapool A890/A896 (Applecross option) A832/A835.

Dpending how you are for time, North from Ullapool around the coast A8365/A894/A838 and heading south at Tounge or Melvich or Thurso etc. heading towards Inverness. Or if pushed for time from Ullapool to Lairg and south to Inverness A837/A836/B9176/A9
Then Inverness to Perth A96(to Nairn) A939 to Ballater, A93 to Perth.

Perth to Edinburgh A9 to Auchterarder A823 to dunfermline via Glen Eagles and Knockhill.

Forth Road Bridge and ---> home

I just have now to look at the map and see where to go with your suggestions.

As we don't want to plan everything before we will go from on campsite to an other (with B&B sometimes to have some sleeping!) without booking.
Is sleeping in a tent in the middle of nowhere allowed / accepted in scotland?
The first time I went in scotland I could sleep in the car if needed, now I can't (but pubs are open later on now!).

I had a HGF last week end, and hope that it will be fixed for my departure : I don't want to go in scotland with another car!!!
For sure, even if fixed, I will have to delay the departure for 2 days --> 2 days not spent there!

Do you have Autoroute on your PC ?

There is a "Right to roam" law that came in to effect in 2003 and you can camp anywhere!

Bring insect repellant as there will be a lot a the moment.

What is Autoroute?
I guess I don't have it...

And I have tested the [censored] midges, so I know how vicious there are.
Is there a special Scottish repellent for them that is efficient?

Its called Malt whiskey... you drink it and after a few you stop worrying about them.
