Report from Goodwood

Post by Rich H » Mon Jul 10, 2006 10:39 pm

Ladies and Gents,

I have just returned from the petrolhead's mecca of Goodwood FOS, and it was pretty damn good. Weather was good on Friday and Sunday but soggy on Saturday. Obviouly there were alot of nice cars about (Pics to follow) and not too busy.

Highlights:

Supercars: The Veron was decidedly understated, the new maybach thing is bizzar to say the least, the concept Pug was odd, the lambos were a disapointment, and the McLaren/Merc driven by touring car Gary (Cant remember..) was awesome! Rolling burnout all the way up the hill, they closed the track for the smoke to clear and he set fire to the front brakes! They had to CO2 them into submission, his response? To look shifty, shrug and give the camera a tumbs up! Good skills! :D Brand new Fezza 599, stuffed into the hay following a long locked up understeer off FFS  driver looked rather sheepish to say the least.

F1 cars: fast, noisy, burnouts.

Old stuff: driven by mentalists in the rain. Stuffed one of the old F1 cars (Memory failing) significant front end damage, but not terminal :(

Motorbikes: Noisy, fast, broken ribs and bruises.

Rally stage: good veiwing, quite quick but the surface was too hard packed and the course very technical, good fun for the drivers but not spectacular as it could have been. Quattro S1s and Stratos rule. period.

Had a (Very short) ride in a Bowler off road thing, fantastic fun! Suprisingly smooth and quiet ride. G/F was grinning all day after that

Also had a ride in a Yota Amazon, very clever and amazingly dull. Quite capable off road even with road tyres, but astoundingly boring.

As ever the acess to the cars was amazing, even the Veyron was covered in sticky fingerprints.

I would recommend the trip to anyone, but my advice would be book accommodation very early, and only go for one day, Sat or Sun, we had tickets for all 3 days but should have just done 8 am to 7 pm Sat.

Cracking w/e out. Shug & Elaine seemed to be enjoying themselves too.

I went on the Saturday. The weather was great!
Fantastic day with great cars. Of all the cars on display, my girlfriend's 'dream car' was a Smart 4.4.
Took a trip on the helicopter as well. Great view of the ralley stage from the air. Disappointed that there wasn't really anything there from Lotus. With 3 new cars on the way I'd expected some kind of presence.

Only downside was the chicken pasty I had at lunchtime kept me up all night...
s1 111s (kind of)
