Edinburger food

Anyone any recommendations for good food in Edinburgh?
Myself and the misses are getting a weekend away minus the kids

- Sheraton on Sat night then heading off to Dalhousie castle on the Sunday.

Looking for a nice informal contemporary restaurant for the Sat night?

nice & informal - could try Stac Polly; very traditional food and bonza! Living Room is nice, laid back and pretty reasonably priced - chap sits in the corner playing some jazz on a white grand piano ('tis on George Street). Olorroso is quite good, but full of yazzers...

The Scotsman is nice too. Avoid the Witchery and Prestonfield House if you don't want formal, but the nosh is amazing! Martin Wishart on the shore has a Michelin Star and that food is to die for, but his taster menu is 70 buck per head

In addition to Sanjoy's link, the Santini restaurant in the newer Sheraton wing was good the last time I ate there - but was a while ago.

ate in Temptest on George street on Friday, really nice great food, setting and service.

Prestonfield house (rhubarb) is definately worth the trip though! Genial place, and the food is exceptional. Love the setting too.

Le Sept just of the high street is also very good food wise. Style is a bit french bistro, but they have some good wines, and the food is great.

The Tower, chambers street on top of the museum, is also very good. Owned by the same dude as the Witchery and Prestonfield.

I can vouch for the Witchery. Food is superb

Mal Maison is supposed to be very good although not eaten there. Tower is great. Witchery poss. a bit ostentatious, but good food. Oloroso I thought was a bit overpriced, and the food wasn't brilliant (maybe takes itself a bit seriously).

get on the blower to the witchery asap - i had difficulty booking 3 weeks in advance

All depends on whether you'll accept their 11.30 dining slot though

Jeez, thats going back a few years. Happy Days, I used to share a flat with Gordon, I lost count the amount of times we were lifted for riding in the centre! Twas that nutter that turned me into a raging alcy for a while! We often used to be found lying paralitic on the wall of the health centre at the bottom of Roseangle, 2ltr bottle of Omega Cider in hand (wrapped in a brown bag for effect)... That was back in the days when the Factory skatepark used to be in the abandoned garage where the DCA now stands.
