Only 4 days left to save Avro Vulcan XH558

Post by bingoking » Thu Oct 28, 2010 12:27 am

This magnificent aircraft is the only flying example left in the world and is kept going by charitable donations.

Flypast at The Bo'ness Classic Hill Climb this year on it's way home from Leuchars.

They are 4 days away from closure and every donation small or large will help to raide the £148,000 needed.

I also donated by text.
It is an amazing piece of machinery and to think that one of these things flew to the Falklands to bomb the runway at Port Stanley airport.
If you haven't already read the book I recommend "Vulcan 607" which tells the story of the bombing of Port Stanley.

While I love the idea of keeping it in the air, they need a long term plan!
They lurch from one finacial disaster to the next... I'll bung them a few quid, but it's not going to keep going like this for long...
I would have thought Virgin (Vulcan/V-Bomber/Virgin?) would have been a prime candidate, you could even repaint it white (Original Anti flash) :thumbsup

I agree about the long term funding but given that it is a charitable organisation it reallies on public donation or corporate sponsorship.
Can't see Virgin doing that.
They had a prime opportunity to carry the flag for Concorde and try and keep at least one of these planes flying but didn't.

There was no chance of keeping Concorde going, or IMO of getting it going again.

There were 5 serviceable Concorde when the fleet was scrapped.
They could have kept one flying by cannibalising the others.

EADS stopped providing support, although there is talk of a deal between them and air france who never really made much money

Really must be saved!
Such an amazing sight to see, but the noise - a sort of hollow roar - is just so unique.

Really something worth going to an air show to experience :)
