Back to Lotus world!!

Post by mj9 » Sat Nov 13, 2010 3:53 pm

Hi Guys,
I've been away from the Lotus scene for nearly 4 years now and I'm thinking of returning! I had an elise s2 11s before and it wasn't a good experience as the headgasket blew and lots of other problems. Anyway, I enjoyed the drive and I'm thinking about buying an Exige or Elise (S2's only). Basically, I need some advice - should I go for the toyota engine (elise) or rover? I want to keep costs down so should I go for elise over exige? Never been in an exige before.. I will be taking it to track days so dont want to be wanting to up grade to an exige after a short period of time if the drive is worlds apart.
Cheers

The head gasket is an obvious weak point on the K but other than that I don't think there are any major issues engine-wise.

If you've had one before you know what they're like so the advice would be to try out a Toyota to get a feel for it. I've never driven one but am told it has quite a different character from the K.

If you're thinking Elise or Exige then it sounds like you're swaying toward the Toyota anyway, although if you want to keep costs down an Elise will be cheaper to buy (running costs, if both Toyota, should be comparable.)

As Ks are found in the older cars (05 back?) then this would be cheaper to buy, although you may need to be prepared for more 'wear and tear' items failing.

I guess it comes down to budget; both up front and for maintenance.
