The Stig vs Clarkson
Top Gear - BBC2 Sunday 23rd at 8pm

Tune in to Top Gear THIS SUNDAY 23rd July (BBC2 8pm) to see the Top Gear boys
battle it out with the ultimate race car for the road.

Can Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May build a Caterham 7 from a complete kit quicker than The Stig can drive over 465 miles from Caterham in Surrey to Knockhill in Scotland??

Clarkson and his co-presenters are not renowned for their mechanical aptitude....
can they possibly put together a whole car and drive it in just ONE day?

We didn't think they could do it. Were we wrong? Find out on Sunday!

Best Regards
The Caterham Cars Team

Sounds like a car to avoid in the 2nd hand market!

It'll probably be relegated to a 5 minute feature by a massive 'comedy' tenting trip in bangers.....

(TG will have to go some to pick up, this series....)

Now if the question was can Lawrence build it in the time it takes Stig to drive up here, the answer could be yes, but with the dream team on it, the real answer is no, whatever the show fudges together to make it look otherwise :-)

Agree that the camping trip was a bit tedious and totally staged - I did like the scrolling message thingmy in the back of the caravan - might get one for the elise - another good game I thought of on the motorway was to dial white vans that advertise their mobile numbers and ask them if they are aware of their current speed - then watch them slam on the anchors :-)

Cheers,
Robin

hmmz - thought it was going to be Stig in 1.6 Roadsport v. Clarkson in R400 :?

Still (as ever) I'll probably watch it. Shame we never knew when old stiggy boy was up at KH, could've been a laugh to see the time he did the track in :D

Anybody see it? If not repeat is on tonight on BBC2.

Saw it myself and was rather dissapointed.. No race round the circuit and all very contrived during the construction, Clarkson useing a hammer to fit ball-joints etc

I'm sure the three of them never built it all on their own, there must have been of camera help. Did laugh when if fell of the jacks when they were putting the engine in though

Agree - TG becoming a waste of a hour - why at KH if not to use circuit - or were they filming something else to use later? And indeed contrived, as was continuity - the garage they built it in is not the one they emerge from.

And that nonsense about "I don't like the Gallardo but this convertible one is now my favourite car" - and what he likes is mainly the same in the original.

I thought it dragged itself back up, actually. The comedy segment (Caterham) was kept suitably short, they actually tested some cars and had the hoon/music/smoke stuff with the Gaylordo.

Fitted the bill of infotainment better than last weeks, which was utterly, utterly dire.

Hopefully, they will realise throughout the series that they've gone a bit far and drag it back to something closer to what it was a couple of series ago.

Jamie, I'm half with you mate ;) I near messed myself when I saw the bill for 5th gear, but then was utterly gutted to hear 'we're not going to track them, we'll see what they're like in the real world'. Hmpf. Same story as I recall when I bought the Brundle dvd a few years back... F40 and Diablo, again nipping to the shops. WHO FARKING CARES?? like you'd do your weekly shop in it if you could afford a £200k F40!

still, were in danger of inciding a SELC*CK type debate here... enyoy TG for what it is, an 'entertainment' show I guess :?

When I stayed in Edin last year, the guy in the flat above used to take his orange murcielago to the sainsburys at craigleith. I know its not an F40, but I thought it pretty cool he just used it as "a car".

Nick Mason (Pink Floyd drummer and car collecting nut) tells a story of a time his modern Volvo refused to start in the middle of winter and he took his daughter to school in his Ferrari 250GTO (which was the only other car there and fired up first time...)

:thumbsup

Built to be used. 8)
