Railway Sleepers (NLC)

Anyone (Mac/JJ?) know of a (reasonably) local source of wooden railway sleepers - preferrably new/good condition.
I'm needing them for the garden, but the closest I've seen them for sale is Doncaster. In the pre-Foot & Mouth days, sleepers seemed to be easily available, but not so now. I guess they've all been used to burn livestock.

I used to be able to get them at the drop of a hat - they are now classified as hazardous waste (due to the borat and tar used to preserve them) and are like rocking horse crap.
The only time I see them now is when we rip them out of the track. Occasionally we can come to an arrangement with Farmers in return for the use of their land - other than that they are taken down south and shipped to Scandanavia where they have the facilities to burn them.
You could try NRS for a new ones but they are pricey. I'm back at work so will keep my ears open - how many are you looking for?

Thanks for the offer - I'd probably need 12 - 15 at a guess.

The Place to go for brand new, solid oak railway sleepers, 2m long, is; Grants Builders Merchants in Glasgow & Paisley, cicra £20 each.
If you are fit and strong enough, you can probably handle them youself
, but best have two folk to lift.
Sleepers also good coffee tables

Check them closely though, look out for wood worm.
