I know quite a few people with SUV's who proudly claim they don't need winter tyres because they've got 4x4. Does anyone here know the brindy hill between Premnay and Keig? I passed three 4x4's (amongst some other cars and a bus!) stuck in a few inches of snow a few weeks back in my elise. :)
I used to pass many a 4x4 in my ST220 with winter rubber on heading up to the Lecht.

I may have mentioned this previously on this thread - I took great pleasure in passing a stuck Merc M class on a snowy/ icy hill in my Fiesta ST on winters. It is amazing the difference winters make - in those conditions.

& I think I've mentioned passing a mini stuck in snow on a gentle hill in the Elise shod with AD06's.

It's like the difference between going out in your hiking boots v your smooth soled dancing shoes!

Well the snow tyres are getting a workout today. 3" of snow here. Just away to build an igloo. Yay!

3 hours to get from Glasgow or Strathaven last night as the roads were gridlocked with twatbadgers that can't drive in snow

Couple of inches last night in Kilmarnock. Winters were ace. However everyone else drove like a twat.

Fitted a set of OEM 18s with Pirelli Sottozeros on our CLS Shooting Brake this morning, and they got a fair test today with about 3 or 4 inches around these parts. I was passing wheel spinning 5 series and stuck cars like it wasn't even snowing. I was deliberately stopping on inclines and pulling away to see how it was and they just found grip and away it went.

The ride is also a lot better than on the AMG 19s.

Absolutely amazed to be honest, never used snow tyres before but I'm converted now.
