Anybody know what it costs to get a new windscreen supplied and fitted for an S1?

My insurance limit is £600 will the MMG / Auto glass bill come in within the £600?

I've heard talk of a grand :(

Not got any proof of that though - give the parts guys at MMC a quick buzz to see what the part cost is for the screen.

Graham, check out 2 month's ago's Evo, I'm sure their fast-fleeter had to get it done on his S1 and discussed the all-in price but for his windscreen cover.

Sorry I can't help you more.

Cheers,

Greg

Thanks guys, have called MMC for a glass quote.

If it is well over the £600 (limit on policy) I could always save a few quid by taking off the front clam myself and getting autoglass to turn up at the house.

Thoughts?

I apid £60 to Tesco, saw the MMC bills of ~£1k, loose/remove front clam and then the auto glass boys arrive do their stuff.

the screen is actually quite cheap. i think 250 quid. you dont have to pay 1K for it to be fitted

Man has a point, loosen off the clam at a spanners and sponges and have Autoglass booked.

Which reminds me, when is the next S&S ?

Starts to sound like we are being conned as per usual.

I had the clam off for a few wee jobs 3 or 4 months ago and replaced the rusty nuts and bolts at the time. Shouldn’t take me more than an hour to take it off and save £400ish.

Not a difficult decision.

autoglass wouldn't go near my Elises unless it was at MMC

Still, mine was covered so i didn't push it

I assumed that mine would be as well but was told when I called up that there was a limit of £600 on the policy.

Surly there is not much they can say if the front end is sitting on the lawn beside the car. With the clam off they have better access than they would have to most other cars and putting it back on is my problem.

He says worrying about his wallet.

That £400 would deal with the suspension upgrade.

The screen from Lotus is £321.60 +VAT. it should take no more than 3 hours to fit.

I need a new screen on mine as well. Do you fit it all yourself or does autoglass come in and bond it?

I will have to phone my insurance when I get back to report it. Thankfully I am fully covered (or was the last time). Could you do insurance work?

Hi John,

We do loads of insurance work but I've never done just a windscreen on insurance. Just as part of bigger repairs. Can't see it being much different though.

I don't bond the screen in myself, I get my local windscreen guy to do it. I do the rest of the work involved.

I will give you a phone when I get back home. If you can come up with a good price, my insurance may send me down to you.. i take it that it could be a turn up early monring, spend the day at the Metro centre and drive home that night job?

With Murrays it took three days (five if you include sat/sun)

I take it you have a dyno as well..
