NLC - Soundblaster 5.1 Speakers

My setup's gubbed - sound extremely woolly, not much top or bottom end and sound builds to a pretty meagre level then drops again as the volume is increased.
I've no idea if it's the card, the psu, the remote volume controller, or the amp in the sub unit. Anyone near Paisley have a similar setup that I could borrw to identify the broken bit?
