Blonde in distress...

Post by tut » Wed Mar 09, 2011 6:14 pm

Clare lost her Internet connection yesterday, needs it desperately for her Uni exams, Talk Talk are a bunch of tossers and no help, she is reasonably clued up, I know my way around and when I don't I call Robin, but this is a hands on job. I have gone through everything on the phone, sent her down two Routers yesterday with spare splitters etc to eliminate that side, no probs with her phone line, but still no go.

She lives in Torry, so if there is anyone in the City that does this for a living, would really appreciate if they could help out.

Cheers

HAve you still got a DSL line? Check the DSL light on the modem or router. If you do you can by pass you ISP to run a line check by connecting to BT's test connection

Set you router up with -

Username - speedtest@speedtest_domain

Password - testing (or no password if your router alllows)

Then you can only go to one web site -

http://speedtester.bt.com/

This will test your line to see if you have an issue, if no issue here then get on to your ISP. If you do have an issue with the DSL line or with the speed test then get on to your ISP and tell them to talk to BT about the line. This assumes your router is all good.

:thumbsup

If its a problem with the broadband not getting to the house let me know. I work with the broadband engineers and can blackmail one of them to go round and fix it if needed.

Thanks both, and Gav, TT wanted £99 before they would consider coming or sending an engineer out, so will take up your offer if Gary is not able to sort it out.

You should have heard what Clare was going to do to their tender parts if they did not sort it out, she scares me sometimes.

Run away from TalkTalk as fast as you can and never look back. If they won't let you run away with a MAC (because they are using LLU), call BT and do a "return to donor" procedure which will take the line away from TalkTalk without them having any say in it. Be prepared to pay what you owe, including buying out of any contract period, but it will be worth it.

About one year after being fcuk over by TalkTalk/Tiscali/Pipex I still receive letters about the amount of money I owe them, even though I have a proper letter from a real person in their customer services agreeing that I have no service from them and that I do not owe them a penny.

Really, life is too short to deal with these fcuk.

I read about a guy who moved home to escape TalkTalk - he couldn't get them to make his line work, nor could he get them to disconnect his line and give it back to BT (he didn't know about return to donor). He sold his house and bought a new one. When he moved into his new house there was a telephone line installed and left by the previous owners. Guess what? It belonged to TalkTalk and he could not get them to talk to him about it, claiming that only the account owner could do that ... I would have been at it with an angle grinder, then calling BT to install a new line ... when TalkTalk eventually catch up and complain ... "Talk to the account holder. I think you'll find that isn't me."

Cheers,
Robin

P.S. When they try to charge you for leaving, ask them to send you a copy of the agreement you entered into. They will point you at their website T&Cs. Tell them those weren't the T&Cs when you joined and that you've received no written notification of any changes to the T&Cs. Eventually they will cave and admit you owe them, at most, the remaining line rental for the contract period.

I think we (BT Openreach) charge the service providers (Talk Talk) something like £350 for a fault visit that turns out to be users kit. Some providers pass the bill onto the customers, some dont.

Definately the best move getting someone round with a bit of savvy to check the set up at the house end is good first.

If he cant get it going shout and I'll whip out the 'personal favor' file and add your name to the list.....

(dont get me started on switching providers. A cheap deal is cheap for a variety of reasons....)

Remember your previous posts Robin regards TT and the other two ISP's. Of course they picked the wrong guy to mess with.

Clare has been with TT for over two years now, so is not tied into a contract, but because she does not know what she will be doing after she graduates in June, she does not want to take out a new contract that would tie her in elsewhere. Otherwise I would have changed her over to O2 via IainB.

I must have been one of the lucky ones as I never really had a problem with TT even when they tried to put up my sub by 50%. Told them to eff off, send me my Mac which they did immediately, and I passed it over to O2 without even an interruption in service.

I'm not too techie but I've had a look at it.

The phone line is working but not ADSL. The ADSL light is flashing on the router. I could connect to the router from the laptop and access it via http. It was showing the status as 'Connecting...'.

Clare said that BT had been replacing some old wires to other flats in the building yesterday and that one of her neighbours is also having a problem.

It does point to a line problem so I'm sure she'd appreciate someone having a look at it sooner rather than later and without the potential of having to pay a hefty fee.

Many thanks Gary, much appreciated. Sounds from that it could be down to her copper line in for which she pays rental to TT, or TT themselves as the ISP provider, but either way it is upto TT to sort out.

Gav, as despite Gary's help she is still without, if you could manage anything that would be much appreciated.

Would love to see Robin marching into TTT(Talk Talk Towers), with a baseball bat.

PM me the landline number and the address. If they have been changing cables it may have been crossed with the neighbour. Did she confirm the line still has the right number on it?
