hi all,
i'm looking for advice or guidance i guess.

at the moment i'm in the middle of applying for a new job.
i've passed half of the test stages and i'm waiting for a letter on friday to confirm if i've made it to the next stage.if all goes well i should be starting about october november time.so if i'm successful.....EXIGE!!!
anyway......i've been doing a lot of thinking recently,about life etc and what to do with myself.
i turned 24 this year and its about time i grew up a bit.
i worked for 4 years as a croupier in glasgow but i left a year past in january.
after i left i came into a fair bit of money and i've basically spent the last year having a good time,eating out all the time,buying whatever i wanted etc.
sadly reality has kicked in for me now andi dont want to waste my life away and look back thinkin"what a waste"
last summer i applied to college to study motor mechanics as i am completly car mad and i knew its something i'd be interested in.
i enjoyed the course but i couldn't put up with all the wee neds that ruin it and piss about.
my first day there i stripped apart a whole brake mech and put it back together while the rest of the wee diddy's arsed about.i was constantly asking the lecturer for things to do but he struggled to control the class never mind find time for the few of us that actually wanted to be there for something other thatn bursary money.
anyway i got frustrated and left the course.
(i didnt fancy getting jailed for twatting an 18 yr old )

if i'm successsful in my job application i should have roughly 3 to 4 days off a week and i'd like to do something productive.
i've applied for my race licence and got my pack through from the MSA
though due to lack of funds and just having to pay my car insurance i've not been able to follow that through as yet.
i'd like to study mechanics again but is there anywhere that i can pay for tuition and do it in my spare time?
i would love to get involved in motorsport in someway,either driving or with a team(yes i know.....wouldn't we all!!)

could anyone put me in the right direction or some useful advice please?

Where did you study?

I know of one guy doing a Motorsport degree at Bell College in Hamilton. There's another I know of in Preston, doing a similar degree - chap in preston has already scored a job in an established team while on the course.

The Motorsport courses still suffer from diddys, but the ratio is smaller than in a general mechanic's course - the fact that you've already studied and left due to idiots may stand you in good stead...

Think it's Uni of Central Lancashire... Not sure though...

the lecturers were good but just too many twats.
my main lec used to work for ferrari,peugeot motorsport and was currently doing a PHD

sadly i only have standard grades
all my teachers used to say to me in school was that if i studied i could be doing this and that but i thought i knew better

even now i'm not a great studyer unless i'm interested in it...i.e cars,motorsports.god i'm sucha kid.
think i'll check out bell colege motorsport course.cheers

also any tips on getting into racing?!

my uncle was a mechanic,trained at jackie stewarts place in dumbuck,built a race car...got my aunt looking for the photos now and was supposed to go racing but a jag engine fell on his leg before he did

Ask Gordon, but here's my potted view.

Have loads of talent, sell everything you own, divest your life into running a car in a backwater championship. Maybe, if you're brilliant and really lucky, after spending all of your money and schmoozing every team boss there is, you might get a paid drive. But you have to win championships on your own first - if you can't pay your way into a team.

The only way to get money in motorsport is to start out with a lot of money.
