F1 2011 timing app

Post by s29ttc » Tue Mar 22, 2011 8:53 pm

Was looking at this for the iPad and I am in two minds at £20 :?

Anyone purchased this or got any views. Would work out roughly £1 a race but just wondering if it would be worth it?

I had the lotus version last year which seemed to do me fine but I liked the idea of the 3d view and the full timings on same screen but don't want to fork out the £20 if it's a load of bollocks.

I got it last year but I'm sure it was less than a fiver ( or I wouldn't have bought it). Timing was really good - often 2 or 3 seconds ahead of tv coverage. The downside for me was watching the timing stats and not paying attention to the actual racing. It was great when I watched coverage abroad that had german commentary I would have been lost without it.
The only real negative of the app was it eats battery charge.
Having said that I wouldn't pay £20 for it as it doesn't give you anything you can't get from tv coverage/ commentary.

I looked at it last year, it was £20 to begin with but reduced maybe the last 3 pr 4 races to £5. Last year seemed to be a lot of complaints about it being buggy but it was new app. After the year it seems to have improved and looks really interesting with the 3d view where you can see where everyone is on track rather than just what the tv I showing. That's what interested me the most. If it was a fiver you could take a flyer, just think £20 is steep if it's nae good.

I understand that the official F1 website will have more stuff this year to add to the timing screens from last year. Last year I used a combination of the F1 timing screen with the BBC in car transponder screen and BBC in car view. All will fit together on Apple Powerbook screen while main broadcast on the telly (this year in HD). Makes quali and races much more interesting.

Anyone else really looking forward to the F1 kicking off again?
I've never been this excited about it before. Don't get me wrong, I'm not soiling myself with anticipation, but I've never really been this interested in it.
Will be good to see DC, Jake and EJ back on screen again.

Yep, really looking forward to the first race :)

I usually use the live timing via the website, presumably the app has more features though. it's nice to spot what the commentary team miss

Can't wait for Sunday morning. Just found this clip from intro to the Australian Gp in 2009.

Thought it was cool at the time and still think it is!

Never mind Sunday morning the practice sessions are on the red button at 0130 tomorrow. I will be staying up for the first session, well some of it anyway. Having taken tomorrow off it would be rude not too. :thumbsup
The rest of the sessions will get recorded for watching at a more sensible hour, but I will be up on Sat and Sun for quali and the race.
Sad I know ....
