I have a ContourHD which comes with a 'flat surface' mounting kit (sticky) and wondered if it would be unwise to have this mounted on the side of my helmet. I'm thinking it might focus an impact and perhaps compromise the protection offered in the event of an accident, although the mounting would be on the left hand side of the helmet so not immediately obvious what would be struck in an impact.
Any thoughts?

Helmet mounted cam - a bad idea?
Re: Helmet mounted cam - a bad idea?
I remember watching "Race to Dakar" with Charley Boorman and they certainly had issues getting through scrutineering with helmet mounted cameras. I think they got round it by velcro'ing them on but it was a long time since I watched it and that was obviously on a bike instead of in a car.

Re: Helmet mounted cam - a bad idea?
I have a ContourHD camera and mount it on my helmet using Heavy Duty Velcro. Worked fine up and down the Stelvio and TimmelsJock passes and stayed put fine. My thoughts were that if I were to be in contact with something then the camera would easily part company with the helmet and not affect its Head Protection.
You can see the ContourHD camera mounted don my helmet in the photo below.

One big problem is wind noise though and have made some adjustments to my setup reduce that.
