Scott,

I guess it depends on your self employed status. I'm technically self employed, working as a LTD Co., contracted through an agency to a single company. I just send my expense claim form to the agency who reimburse me directly then they claim it back from the client (plus their mark up). Not sure if it helps,

Cheers,

Robin

I have just started a new job, specializing in accounts and tax returns for self employed and small firms.

You have a PM !

When I was "self employed" I could only use my travel expenses as a tax allowance - though no idea how it worked.

Did you ever hear back from Rockstar Scott?

I was only self employed for 2 ½ months so don’t know too much about it. I was getting the train from Dundee to Edinburgh each day. I wouldn’t have minded the £17.50 a day so much but the company went into liquidation owing me my last month’s wage. So I was out of pocket by a fair bit and would like to try and claim some(?) of it back if I can. I’ve still got (most of) the receipts.

Cheers

If you have the reciepts then that's what you need to make your claim.

Being self-employed allowable 'expenses' are deducted from your income(turnover) before working out your profit. As long as you have reciepts then there should be no problems.
