Was there during construction, just before fit out. Really impressive building
The phasing of handover seemed really optimistic! It's obviously worked.

Do you work there?

I dont get why the cars and bikes are all up in the air, I thought the whole point of a museum was to see the pieces close up and personal which aint easy when its 20ft+ above your head

Apparently floor space is at a premium hence a number of exhibits being up in the air.... looks pretty cool though... will definitely visit within a couple of weeks of it opening...

I do work there. New museum is roughly same size as the old one, but the previous had just 1200 objects on display, new one has over 3000. Not all the cars or bikes are on the wall. The important objects are on the floor. But if they weren't displayed like that then they would be in storage. We also have QTVR of each car that is on the wall so that you can spin it round on a screen and the interior - this isn't a replacement for getting up close, but it's better than them being in store?

Does this replace the Transport Museum in Kelvingrove?

Haven't been to Glasgow for years, might pop through soon for a visit...

Transport Museum at Kelvinhall is closed and the Riverside replaces it.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum over the road from Kelvinhall io open and it has been recently refurbished so worth a look if you haven't been for years.

Is it daft that I'm really keen to go see this? I'd often pop into Kelvingrove when I had a spare hour - had seen everything in there a million times, but it was still cool to poke about. Went lots as a wee boy (was about when they opened it - moving the collection from South of the river) Delighted they have done a new Kelvin Street as I thought that was really well done in the old place.

:thumbsup Not a bad idea but it will probably be really busy for a month or 2 after re-opening (Kelvingrove was) - sure Glasgowwestie can advise though.

Is there a Classic Mini on display?

They have one of the last 500 and I got to drive it round Knockhill at the Classic Speedfair in Mini's 50th year :)

We were at the preview event on Saturday for suppliers / contractors (my wife supplied them with archive film footage).

We only got to see about a third of it but I have to say what I saw of it was a major disappointment.

Having visited the Albert Drive and Kelvin Hall sites literally hundreds of times over the years and working in KH as a student, the thing I loved about it was that you could get right up to ALL the exhibits - the bikes and a lot of the model ships in Riverside are 30ft in the air FFS  - same with a lot of the cars.

The street scene that we saw (which was one of my favourite bits from Kelvin Hall) looks like a Witherspoon’s / O'Neil's pub - its all too new looking and everything is labelled up so that muppets know what is going on with flat screens everywhere. Fingers crossed the other areas are better. I will go back when it opens properly but I'm kinda sad my kids will never get enjoy it in the same way we did.

The Glenlee Tall Ship is ace - although I believe they are going to charge you to get into this.
