Help, Need Throttle Cable ASAP

Post by Gourlay83 » Thu Jun 16, 2011 8:56 pm

Had a quick drive in the Caterham and the throttle cable snapped, and were meant to be camping tomorrow.

If you have one or know what it's from, please contact me on 07766666080.

Thanks in advance
Alan

I've got a few different ones here Alan but no idea what the Caterham needs at the pedal end.

:cheers Alan

Gail's brother had a superlight and it broke quite a few cables

I think it's off a Metro
Throttle cable: SBB10176 (Rover Metro)

Just googled it and it shows up on a few "caterham build" blogs that the metro cable is the one

That's correct Iain, at least it's the cable used on both the K-series with single plenum and also with the roller barrel throttle bodies, so I would assume it will also fit Alan's. The problem is that I believe the part it has been discontinued and is very difficult to obtain.

You can see it here http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product. ... roduct=661

Alan, your best option is probably to use your old outer sheath with a bike brake cable inner, cut to size and terminate at the pedal end with a piece of electrical chocolate block connector or similar. See this thread on blatchat http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?id=201612 for a little more detail on sizes and suitable bike cables

I broke a number of cables on my Caterham until I put in a mechanical stop at the pedal end - well worth doing.

Best of luck and enjoy the camping :cheers

Thanks everyone, 4 phone calls in 30 mins :thumbsup

I didn't get a cable but did come up with a fix. The cable snapped at the pedal end so plenty of inner cable to use, all i had to do was make a stop up. I drilled a thru hole in a thread insert, passed the cable through and clamped it together with a bolt. Just back from a drive and everything seems to be ok.

Cheez is on the case for a new throttle cable though, just incase. Sadly i have to work tomorrow, so can't arrange it myself.

So here's what actual happened.....

I took Chris (cheez) out a run in the car to make sure everything was ok as i'd just fitted a new catch tank. We were about 5 miles from the house when the cable snapped, i pulled the broken cable through and handed it to Chris in the passengers seat. He worked the throttle and did everything else. All was going well until Chris was a bit eager on the throttle coming out a wet right hand corner. The tail slide out but he was wise/scared and kept his arm in for me to turn into it. Basically, a perfect drift with chris working the throttle and me working the steering.

Thanks for the help.

:-)

Sounds like you should fit a mechanical end stop or have Cheezus teach Jen how to hand operate your throttle ....

Cheers,

Remember the mod we did on N1's throttle Robin from KH to your house.

First attempt did not quite work, ie setting the idle to 4000rpm, but the second hand throttle was fine. S_E rules again for Alan.
