Anyone see the pigs get slaughtered last night...even Gordon Ramsay was close to tears. Somehow, I don't think it's as quick and painless as that in all slaugher houses.

It was quick death but very sad all the same.**

Not as bad as I thought.
Stunned with a large prong through the head (electric charge), pig fell over, hooked up by the feet and throat was cut which was rather noisy. Sounded like a bucket of water had been tipped over. Then the pig was put in a machine to strip any hairs and a few layers of skin. Finally gutted, keeping the intestine skins for sausages.

No kicking or squeeling. Very quick.

I was very very tame, he took about a minute per pig, reckon with no cameras he could have cut out the stunning section and gone sub 30 seconds.

Why do they not bolt them like cows ?

Anyone ever killed an animal (other than with the front end of a car, or a gun?)

I once filled a magpie. One of my parents spaniels caught it! Then delivered to me. I think it had seen better days, so I put it out of it's pain

Got lost in the Borneo jungle in '63 during the war with Indonesia. We were on a two day patrol, so had compo rations for that length, but ended up on seven days.

I was lead scout, but had two Iban trackers in front of me (ie they got killed first if we were ambushed), who were normally armed with blowpipes and panjas, but we had given them 7.62 mm SLR rifles, with a couple of days training. No great problem with living from the jungle, they darted monkeys and caught snakes, but the little buggers were so taken with the rifles, that when we came accross an elephant family, they shot the baby before I could stop them.

We ate the fillet, but of course they had the heart and the liver.
