How far can i drive with no coolant?

Long story short, seem to have lost a front hose, resulting in coolant spewing over bonnet/road. AA are saying 4 (further) hours to recover car to Murrays - currently in middle of Glasgow.

I'm about 2 miles from my brothers flat, which will at least put me somewhere safe.

Is this too far without coolant?

Cheers
Mark

I'm not sure I'd risk it. Can you not leave the car and go back when the AA arrive?

Yeah, think this is what I need to do, and hope/pray the car is still here when I return.

I would have thought 2 miles - gentle running on a cool night would be achievable if you are starting with a cold engine? No guarantees are given or implied in the above statement

I ran my Elise from George Square to Shields Road under similar circumstances with no ill effects. Filled up with water and avoided traffic. It was holding some water though.

IMO not worth the risk to drive it. Stay with the car if poss? Get a pal to bring coffee-to-go?! Get a pal to bring a tow rope to get you to your Bro's?

Sorry to hear this Mark.

Thanks for all the advice. Decided to get the car collected tomorrow am and at least get some sleep.

Not overly impressed with AA at the moment, although they did offer to shout me a hotel.

Like father like son, although when I did that to N1 it was to put out an oil fire.

If you had access to water I would have filled it up, checked to see if it was running out from anywhere, if not drive slowly home , checking it a couple of times. Action would also depend on whether you have P&L and Home Start. If you do then you have to call them out to make a claim which could have been from home.

Just spotted this. For the sake of two miles, surely it could be gently towed on a rope to your brother's? If I'd spotted this last night I could have towed you.
