new exhaust from generous donor

I recently acquired an Elise SC std exhaust from Peter :cheers as a backup for when my std Elise S one blows up.

A quick change of plan thanks to my super enthusiastic pal, and we changed it over the same night on the driveway.

For any Elise S owners, the SC exhaust looks much cleaner from behind, sounds a bit deeper and the car seems more 'driveable' perhaps cos it's flowing better

there is a but - its a tad heavier (maybe the extra bracing, extra bit of tubing, and possibly packing)

I thought i was in for a cosmetic upgrade as the boxes looked virtually identical, but I got so much more than a replacement - more like an upgrade!

Cheers Peter! :thumbsup

Peter

If you don't mind me asking, what exhaust do you have instead and how does it compare?

Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark, I don't have the car anymore but it was fitted with a Lotus stage 3 (only the stage 3 can be used on the SC cars). The sound was amazing but loud, in the standard car all you can hear is induction, add the Stage 3 and it's a different sounding beast, to the point that it altered my driving style...
The only other car that I know that had this exhaust was Mass' Exige Club Racer (with Gulf livery), you may have heard this one if you had been at Knockhill last year.
If you are looking for a quieter alternative then lots of others on here have gone down the 2Tubular route, people seem to like te quality and noise of Jim's exhausts but you may want to get some feedback from owners as there seems to be a variety of options available.

Cheers, Peter

Thanks Peter.

The only one I've heard/been in was an Exige S with the Stage 3 at MMC and it did sound great, particularly the pops on the over-run....how addictive is that?! My only concern is that it's just a little too loud, as it's more than just a weekend car and does need to do the odd motorway trip with the other half.

I'll need to try and take the opportunity of hearing a few others.

Cheers
Mark

Yep, noise was not an issue for me and the pop on overun was brilliant. I can't recall exactly what it was like cruising but not too bad from what I remember. Always worth a chat with Craig from MMC if you are interested in getting one..

Yes, spoken to Craig...he's the one leading me into temptation!

Thanks again

I have to update my experience with the sc exhaust on my Elise s, when fitted originally, the idle sounded a bit lumpy as with the old one - but this was eradicated a few long drives later.

The ECU must have been learning again because initially I just found the car's performance to be more flexible, but now I can categorically say it is more powerful and has more low down torque.
My friend agrees and says he now gets a real shove in the back from just under 3000rpm to 4000rpm.

I'm so surprised at this - it's just a bloody exhaust after all!

The only way to be sure is a before and after dyno on the same rolling road, but feeling is also believing, so enjoy it :-)
