Scottish Elises

Reading about all the Frolic nonsense, I had an idea for a future tour...bit of a "Fantasy Frolic", maybe, but could be fun choosing!

String together four GP circuits across four different countries in a week or 10 days...either current or historic.

Can it be done?

Zandvoort
A1 Ring
Spa
Nurburgring

...would seem a practical group.

Pau
Barcelona
Estoril
Monza

...would be utterly nuts, obviously.

Perhaps the one per country or GP-only restraints could be removed in the spirit of practicality.

What tracks would you choose?

I would drive the Nordschleife again at a stroke, however access and legalities are getting tougher all the time.

I reckon modern F1 circuits would be a bit dull in an Elise (relatively) as they're so slow (and safe) - I mean the Elise is slow and the circuits are safe. Somewhere old/narrow would be more fun. I guess if it was anywhere in the world that Aussie circuit looks interesting (the one with the Elise racing - CBA looking). Ledenon's great, maybe the Ascari place in Spain... Hmmm number 4. Monza? Will think about number 4

Just looked at the video again, it's Bathurst. The back part of the circuit looks interesting Would be a fun trip out there too! Still thinking about 4. Anything good in South America?

Part of the motivation for GP tracks is the nostalgia or current day significance of driving on them.

I realised this when watching Spa last weekend, particularly the v v wet practice session, and found myself thinking "wow, driven that, can remember vividly the way the track unfolds" etc

OK then - 4 classic tracks not necessarily GP-grade, in 4 countries which you could realistically join up on a 10 day roadtrip. Please continue...!

Think this guy did all three in a week or so, you could fit in Estoril or Circuit de Catalunya on the way home to make it four. Must work harder & get myself booked on FF sometime for starters.

However if I had anything to do with it, we would be including Spa. Even if we have to use this escape route to minimise our exposure

Yep would love to try Hockenheim or the Sachsenring or Salzburgring in Austria, brings in some nice alpine passes too.

And if you're in Salzburg may as well nip over to Brno in Czek republic.

I'm with you on the uglies in Belgium although Stu will not agree.............

GP circuits are (generally) pretty boring. Would be better doing ex GP tracks from the 60's and 70's if you MUST do GP tracks.

Its a big ask to book circuits in europe if your not experienced and have 50 members willing to spend 4k on a holiday.


For a more reasonable tour, why not do a four nations tour of the united kingdom. Mondello in ireland, Anglesey in wales, Cadwell in england, and the kinlochleven loop (closed for maintenance )
