Am still thinking about second cars, love the S1 but it’s hard work in January and the load carrying, people carrying, towing and off road abilities are all a bit limited.

Thought I might get this one, or one like it. Anybody think it is a good / bad idea.

Alternatives?

Only thing to question is the LPG install - does it have proof of install from a recognised installer (I think there's a voluntary quality body)

Other than that, seems decent. Good counterpoint to the Elise and they are usable big things.

The really early ones are underdeveloped basket cases, but they got better as they got older AFAIK

Not my cup of tea

Though do realise they can rut like nothing on earth around the back end

But stick some police spec springs on it, chuck the front spoiler in the bin and you have a good offroader.

Am keen on the 90s myself but having looked at the relative prices you get much more Disco for your cash. It was also pointed out to me that if I got a 90 then I would have 2 cars neither of which are designed to drive on a road (which might be true :roll: ).

I don’t think I could persuade her in doors of my need for a third car.

If I had the cash for a late model County spec 90 in TD5 then I would probably go with that, possibly with Disco ratio 5th gear, but given the financial limits it looks like a 300 series Disco in either TDI or V8 (LPG). As between those two I am swinging in favour of the V8 even although a converted one is a wee bit more expensive than a TDI and a good bit more difficult to find.

Just for the record I am silly enough to go an a flee bay splurge and get a load of pointless off road gear to go with the it if I buy one. Will start with a suspension lift, big tires and a roof rack. I can hear, the comments about money being better spent on new sofas already :rage .

Yeah a disco the same age as mine is far cheaper. I must admit i was of the thinking if you are going to buy an offroader buy a proper one. Also i love the simplicity of a 90

But a disco is actually a very capable offroader you just need a few sutle mods. You don't need to spend silly money.

Just depends if you wish to go offroad and enter events with it. To do events then you need to a small brain removal as occasionally you just have to go for it. use the sheer momentum to carry you up and over things.

A nice Range Rover Vogue V8 with an LPG conversion :lol:
(The diesels are all bollocks)

All the bells and whistles as well as a decent off road capability. A large overhead of niggles but still a beast.

Mate of mine has a Bob tailed 80s thing. All mismatched tyres and dents. It's a real hoot and it just won't die.

Another guy I know had a S1 with a Rover 3.5 V8 in it, it would gladly spin all 4 wheels in on dry tarmac. Used to go through half shafts like fun but that isn't the point...

I have had 2 Discoverys from new. Both 300 series TDIs. The only time they were ever off road was when Wendy was trying to park! :oops: :shock:

Unfortunately both had a multitude of electrical gremlins which never really seemed to be fixed, they just went away then came back later.

My LWB S3 Landrover spends most of its time off road and is pretty indestructable.

I do like the idea of a Range Rover but old air suspension, build quality that makes Lotus look like rolex and more wiring than an A380 puts me off a bit. At least with a Disco its all a bit more straightforward and I recon parts are more reasonable too[/quote]

One of my collegues is selling his range rover. I would not go near the thing,.. it has been so unreliable :cry: . Expensive to fix, & badly built, not a good combination, hence the heavy depreciation. Disco better, Defender best :lol: IMHO.
