Scottish Elises

I thought these were going to be temp for the 40mph for some roadworks. They are looking terribly permanent though. *remembers angry Ed in the Exige, making up time on the way to KH many moons ago*

Anyone know?

The local lads that I work with in St Andrew's said last week that the article in the local paper claimed that they would be retained after the roadworks ~ I've seen an increased police prescence at the top end of the A92 when I finish at night both carraigways~heading back to the Burgh

The signs for the roadworks say that they will be there for 40 weeks or something like that so the 40mph limit and cameras will be there until at least the end of summer next year......

I'd find it pointless for said cameras to be left behind after the roadworks, albeit set back to 70mph, given that most of that section of the M90 is a car park for a lot of the day anyway (well, southbound at least!).

Slightly OT but related, I saw signs today on my "regular" commute, advertising 72 weeks of roadworks near M9 J1a - I am assuming this is the new FRB junction improvement, in itself not before time BUT it's going to be a painful commute for a lot of C Scotland once this gets underway. That's the busiest part of the M9, AFAIK. Time to cycle a bit more methinks!! Wonder if they'll have Average Spud Scameras on there soon too, then...

I can't actually believe that they have fully invested in the kit and technology for these to be fully operational. There seem to be so many variables , from slip roads to junctions, to lane changes etc. I suspect that they are not wired up and that the only people who will ever be done for speeding through that section will be by a police car or scamera van. Any one brave enough to test my theory

I saw them pulling the cables through onto the overhead bridge near my house and terminating them... not sure i'd risk it.
having said that, if i go the back way and turn off at Dalgety Bay I bypass them anyway :0)

Likewise; my commute from Dunfermline takes a minute or so longer if I go back roads and bypass the painfully slow 40mph stretch.

According to http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/roa ... t-crossing one of the three tenders for the new crossing was an 'Intelligent Transport System' which I hear is a (semi?) automated system that sets variable speed limits based on traffic flow, enforced by average speed cameras.

I might actually have done this by mistake a few weeks ago on the way to the LEGS meeting at Perth airport. I didn't realise there were speed cameras until on the way back.
Been waiting for the dreaded letter in the post, but I think I'm safe now (IIRC they need to send any penalty within 2 weeks). Either that or I was within the limit

That link from _ali is actually quite a goldmine. If you are a saddo interested in new road projects and alignments etc (like me), then follow the "Further information" link which opens a section to include "Image gallery" etc...lots of groovy digital artists' impressions of proposed road layouts etc.

Although I have to say I'm surprised at the "light touch" for the M9 J1a improvement...thought they might have taken the chance to wipe out that daft 30mph turnpike in the process. However on the upside at least it means access to the bridges direct from Linlithgow via m-way, and will take a lot of traffic off the A904 to S Queensferry.

The works to install the north-side interchange at Ferrytoll are going to be utter carnage. Buckle up, Fifers, it's going to be a bumpy ride

Just looking at the route Campbell. I'm looking forward to it being completed but it looks like they missed a trick, If they join the new bridge route a little further west on the M9 instead of the old junction 1a then this would take the load of the existing junction 1a (backs up in both directions at the moment)and also persuaded people away from the Newton road when heading from Linlithgow/Falkirk direction..

Of course I'm sure they have done all the modelling etc

Aye, I guess it's too late for changes now but it's hard to tell if there will be any other capacity improvements eg an extra lane each way for southbound merge / northbound exit with M9.

The southbound backup is a combo of the single lane filter onto the J1 exit to Newbridge, and the requirement to merge for that on the elevated bit above Kirkliston (I imagine?).

The northbound backup is from the single lane merge with the traffic from the Newbridge underpass, and the fact that only 1 lane runs up the turnpike (I believe?). Used to be 2 in the good ol days before people kept crashing out of it! Perhaps this will improve a little with the developments...we'll see eh.
