If you still have one of the 1st Gen Nano's Apple are offering a replacement due to possible battery issues
See the info at this link
http://www.apple.com/uk/support/ipodnano_replacement/
I have registered one that I still had and it looks like Apple are going to send a box for it to be returned in and will send me a new Nano in replacement

Me too. I think they send you a new nano, which is much smaller with a touch display. (Why am I explaining? You can use Google).
I quite like my old one though, it is the smallest I can own anything of without losing it!
But I qualify!
Pete
(I once got a recall from a ebay company for a safety notice on a HDD IDE to USB with separate power. Thing is the thing was only a few quid and it was really useful, and I was using it at the time. So I ignored it. Then one day, whilst I was using it, it caught fire. Actual fire, not just a wisp of smoke but burst into (very small) flames. I unplugged it and it went out. It is perhaps not my greatest anecdote. I feel it lacks an ending.

Bugger! I had one then gave it to Alan when I got my iPhone, then he dropped it in the bath and I have no idea where it is now! Going to have a hunt over the weekend I think!

Like for Like according to this.

Probably takes 6 weeks turnaround to give them time to replace the batteries in returned units and then send them out as replacements
Anyway, thanks for the heads up and I have a fully working and charged iPod Nano 1st Generation which luckily hasn't burst in to flames yet. Registered for the replacement
I still have an original iPod Shuffle which is working fine (just like all my Apple stuff), hope its battery is Ok.

Yep just re-read this and I think you're right. I want an old one - I don't like the new one I'd lose it.

My old nano stopped working after I forgot to take it out of my swimmers before running into blue waters of St Lucia...
According to serial numbers I qualify .. if they open it up I doubt I'll get anything in return

Mine is missing too Ian!
It was posted to the repair centre on 22 Nov and, as of 5 mins ago, "is being progressed through our network for delivery"
Since I had expected a response within 2 days I contacted Apple Customer Support on 1 Dec.
They suggested that I send them a scanned copy of "proof of posting" after which I got the following mail -
"I submitted your proof of postage to our escalations team. They are in process of issuing you a replacement unit at this point in time.
I will let u know as soon as your replacement unit is on the way,it might take a couple of weeks though."
Might be worth giving them a call.
