Just been reading this on pistonheads: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/to ... omb+&mid=0

Doesn't look too good for some older cars and in the following link posted within the comments a fair few of the lotus would appear to be unsuitable for running with the fuel  : http://www.flexfuelkit.com.au/articles/ ... Page1.html

Interesting.

Especially since certain Land Rovers "since 1996" use the same K-series petrol engine as the Elise does, and they have been declared "compatible".

The E5 compatibility list is particularly entertaining. According to the PH article, E5 is already in use and does not have to be declared at pumps...at which many Lotus (and other) owners are no doubt filling happily already. Yet Lotuses are declared "not compatible" with even E5 in the flexfuel link.

I know many of the supermarkets have a greater percentage of biofuel already,... AFAIK it's purely down to it being cheaper.

Seems Honda's are good. Don't mention in the technical section or there will be WW3
Sure there will still be an option for every car.

My worry is that the taxman wont be slow in making you pay a lot extra because you like to keep a car.
Rather than ruin the environment having a new one built and dumping the old one in a field

Bloody biofuel.

Let's grow fuel while millions starve.

10% biofuel is going to be very very difficult to do sustainably, I doubt it'll come in as standard by 2020.

I'm no expert but something like this should help: http://top-oils.co.uk/e10-fuel-improver ... p-297.html

According to the list in the second link our cars are even at risk with the current 5% or am I interpreting this wrongly?

You're probably right Saj but it adds even more cost to price of fuel if we need to add this to every fill up .
The advert is for 250 litres of fuel worth for £45. If you do about 8000 miles a year that is about £225 a year extra.
Things may well go the way it did when unleaded was introduced. It was gradually phased out and once sale stopped at garages near you there was no option but to either convert your car to run on unleaded or use lead additive. Just means the cost of running an 'old' car gets increasingly higher.
I still have a bottle of lead additive left from when I had the Series 3 LR

I might try a bottle of this stuff out just to test the fuel economy claims out.

This.

A classic eco-fallacy
