To stop all the arguing and avoid racking up expensive legal costs, I have created a poll to decide the future of Scotland. While Westminster and Edinburgh are fannying about we can decide

Good idea!! :thumbsup

I'd also be interested to run a poll to see how many would move elsewhere if Scotland did become independent.

Unlike Mr Salmond I don't want to dilute the responses by adding in questions to split the vote

Voted Yes.. Because I do want an independent Scotland.
Would I vote for it AFTER a debate on the consequences of it? Dunno yet.

yeah, thats it - passion, emotion, pride?
those things are the SNP battle ground because it tugs at heart strings.
We are a proud nation, you can feel the blood inside u energise when you drive / fly over the glens.

But looked at from the point of view of culture, of business sense, of interaction of trade with other countries, meh, no so much imho.

At last a debate on it tho, its gone on long enough without a focus of a question to get a real answer :-)

Not voted as I'm not qualified.

Who is qualified though? How do you sort that out?
Plenty of 'Scottish-ish' down here and plenty of Englanders up there....

From the Draft Referendum bill (yawn)...

"Eligibility to vote will follow the precedent of the 1997 referendum in being based on who can vote at Scottish Parliament and Scottish local government elections."

Lots of ping pong on the radio earlier this week about enabling ex-pat Scots in rest of UK to vote, and of course the 16 and 17 year olds.

So unless you're in any of those groups, Rich, then you're stuffed!

However, in the true spirit of SE, I am absolutely in favour of any member voting above regardless of denomination, class, creed or choice of Lotus Elise variant :-) Get in there mate.

Note to posters - try to keep the detailed debate for Gareth's Independence thread. This is just the poll. Otherwise we'll end up with a fractured union (ouch).

I would be interested to hear the opinions of the 10 so far people who have voted yes and why they did so on the other thread as it's pretty one sided in there at the moment.

Interesting - current %ages are roughly +/-10% compared with recent polls, but the sample size (i.e. us) is small, so statistical variance will be high.

Keep 'em coming (more peeps makes it more relevant) - maybe we should do this once a quarter throughout the next 2 1/2 years :thumbsup

The thing with a debate is you only hear the opinion of those who want to share their views. This doesn't mean the others won't vote come time.
The other thread is interesting to read and I have my own views but would rarely post up about them. When you have a thread that goes one sided even less people would venture in to take an opposing view.
I'm in a tricky position that my employer is a UK wide company and if Scotland split I think it would be very bad for me.
The idea, just the idea mind, of an independent Scotland is fine but I don't see it working. Too many slackers in this country that need shot; meet them every day.

Anyhoo this thread aint for debating so I'll fire a vote in and leave it that.

Mon the revolution :thumbsup
