DRIVE & SURVIVE - IAM

Those who were on the run last year when there was an 'incident' got a few like minded SE'rs thinking about what could help to improve the safety of our group outings.
Save the silly comments, the IAM team (that stands for Institute of Advance Motorists and not a well know dog food -->
Guys,) are up for helping out and I for one think it would be a positive way of getting BETTER at WHAT WE ALL LOVE TO DO.
I contacted the Edinburgh branch and got this reply:-

Thank you for your e mail.
The Edinburgh Group runs three courses in the year the next one
starting with an Introduction Session on 25 April. We cover Edinburgh
and the Lothians and there are a number of other similar Groups around
the country.
The number of people we can cater for on each course is dependent on
the number of Group "Observers" that are available. All of the
Observers are volunteers and we operate on a one to one basis to give
as much flexibility as possible. We are usually looking at about 15-18
on a course.
The fee, currently £139, is set by the IAM which limits our scope to
offer discount but the Group may be able to give a small refund to
those taking the course and passing the Test.
We would certainly welcome participation from members of your group
and we could probably cater for 3/4 per course as things stand at
present. There is no problem over the type of vehicle -as long as it
is road legal!!- taxed insured etc and the driver has a full driving
licence.
I will send you our information sheet and if you need any further
information please get back to me.

was it really that long ago..getting old 
). Still things that I use today such as road positioning, how to read hedge lines, apexes, road contours, judge distances and general awareness / roadcraft. Luckily I had a decent tutor but there were a few paired up with old busybodies looking for a night out and a chance to impose authority types that weren't much fun I remember!
. No, I had to stop when my original driving instructor, from whom I'd loaned the books, asked for them back! That was a couple of years ago now
