What the BBC did
not report, however, was PC Milton's closing remark:
"It might have been a 160mph Vauxhall Vectra, but I still couldn't keep up with that beat up old blue Elise that buzzed me at about 150 Tuts a few minutes previous..."

Nice one Campbell
However, since when could a 3.2 Vectra do 160mph?

Actually, Jezz Chappers tried a recent Vectra VXR on Top Gear and it did do something in region of 160mph so be prepared to be amazed.
And remember, Police vehicles are often adapted to do something a little "extra" to keep ahead of Joe Boy Racer in his 2 litre Corsa

Mate has a VXR Vectra estate, one of the first I think. Very quick, very linear acceleration, not my cup of tea but I could believe 150+ Felt a lot quicker than my old V6 Omega and they were good for 145.

Did he have Nick Freeman on his side ?

Freeman actually lost out today representing Caprice.
The scrawny blond, as the PC described her, got a years ban for being over the limit, 1.5 bottles of red at lunch time, and several more glasses in the evening.
Her excuse was that the antibiotics that she was taking for a urinary infection, probably caused by an excess of cock, interfered with the readings.
Good to see that the Magistrates sometimes get it right.

Supposedly engine mods are a very big myth on police cars, after all there better drivers than joe blogs and are expected to be able to out drive these guys in a standard car therefore wouldn't need any mods.

Interesting. I did once watch a TV docu-show thing, many years ago, which explained that police vehicles were certainly "highly maintained"...so perhaps I was confusing this with "highly tuned"
I agree that [traffic] police driving standards and skills are generally at the pinnacle of road driving ability. A prominent SIDC member, PC Dick Grimes, was most informative to that group re: "how it should be done"...

I was told by a ex-police driving instructor when they first got BMW's ( I think) they had problems with the handling due to the amount of equipment they carried . The manufacturer got involved directly to sort the issue and change the suspension . If they can do that it would not be too hard for the makers to tweak the engine I would imagine .

My neighbour is a traff. he's a very nice man

he gives me all the lowdown on there cars etc. for a price..... usually 6 cans of lager and a packet of crisps..... well worth it !
He had mentioned the equipment issue but due to the kit they carry now it's advanced that much now that it's light enough not to have an effect.
Also on the maintenance side of things, if during a shift it's been called to a 999 emergency ie given a good thrashing, when the car is returned it is given new brake fluid and pads along with a host of other checks, the maintenance is unbelievable !

All of a sudden the buggers are breeding up here.
Blue Scooby, Maroon Vectra, both unmarked, new Volvo Turbo Patrol job, silver BMW, and this is Mintlaw/Old Deer for gawds sake.
