I thought the words 'fast' & 'fiat' were a contradiction of terms,.. or called a ferrari? :D

I seem to remember a Fiat on TT2005 managing to embaress a Lotus on its passing powers (even if it was on the downhill stretch of Glencoe) Never managed to get the speedo reading so high since then.

Iain

P.S. Was probably the weight saving Lotus Tax disc holder in the Fiat that made the difference

I guess it comes down to the driver.

As Clarkston once wrote, "no matter what super exotic car you are in, there will always be a local who can drive the road quicker in his hatch back". So true

Its not what you drive, it's how you drive it :drive    :o

As Andy G mentioned in his video clip from Oulton, best spend money on driver training to make you quicker, rather than on the car.

The only mod I ever made to my S2 was Pagid Pads to make it slow down quicker. The rest of my money went to Walshy's Beer Fund.

Agree about the local Hot Hatches upto a point.

Met quite a few of them over the years as we passed through villages, but I think that Scotty will agree that we passed them if we wanted to, but when they knew the roads so well and were driving sooped up chav cars, we had to concentrate.

The higher driving position helps a lot, even crappy 4X4s can surprise when they can see over teh walls and thus around corners that sports car drivers virtually have to stop to see round.

I followed a Freelander (part way) up the Cairn last Saturday. He knew I was behind and that he was holding me up. The elevated driving position must help, either that or he was a complete nutter and taking (what to me were) blind bends on the wrong side of the road. He was REALLY trying though, 3 wheels and taking off over the jumps... :D

Following him was just like following tut though, 5th/6th gear, elbow out the window, listening to some tunes... ;)

We normally go out to the Western Isles every spring, this year we were following a TDi Golf down from Salen to Ffinnophort (sp?) on Mull and once he saw we were there he just started pulling away. It's not handling, it's not outright cornering speed, it's certainly not brute power it's visibility and I guess less of a concern about road surface.
I don't know about you but if I'm in a FWD or 4WD I'm a lot less concerned about hitting a patch of manure or mud mid corner than I am if I'm in the 'Liz. I also avoid potholes more in the Liz than in other cars which again affects our entry speed as we can't see.

He was probably a local too. And I'd been ill. I wasn't trying. (Got abuse off my wife for getting beat by a Golf  ).
