Clarky, do you fancy signing up? (I am not sure if there are still spaces available though)ClarkyBoy wrote:where was my invite Garyhendeg wrote:Myself and Steve (c7steve) are doing the 110 mile King of the Mountains Sportive next month. It's the same route as the Etape Royale but not closed road.
I've nothing else planned yet but Steve is also doing Etape Caledonia.
I've just been getting out at the weekend but need to start getting out during the week too. This weather isn't helping though.

I see Mr Rolfes in the same wave as me. Make sure you wave on the way past!

We did our first Sportive at the weekend, Etape Loch Ness. Liked the closed roads format compared to the Audax we did previously. Might do the Granton Gallop toward the end of the year.

To be honest, if you can start in an earlier wave, then do so gents! (It's pretty much a free for all at the start line anyway, herding sheep up the high street!)
The earlier you start the more groups you will be able to join onto and draft, as well as get a bit of banter going. 81 miles solo is a lonely place, esp the last 20 when you're feeling broken.

I would be feeling broken for the last 60 odd!
Well done for those completing it.

Well that's that over for this year. I think I started off too fast so struggled after the Schehallion climb 45 miles in. Made it round in 5:10 which I'm pretty pleased with for my first time.
Good to see Steve and Rolfey afterwards who both smashed my time.

Cheers guys
It was tough going in parts but the climb at Schehallion wasn't as bad as I expected .. It wasn't easy but I had expected worse. One stop and then a mechanical issue (sorry Dave!) where I lost my big chainring at 55 miles meant I just beat 5 hours. I was felling quite chuffed with that until I bumped into Simon Arnot who blitzed it in 3:35
Congrats to eveyone that finished .. Off for a beer and a curry

We had a really strong groiup from Livingston Cycling Club but I had a puncture at 25 miles so lost the group. Ended up jumping between groups and solo for the next 56 miles clocking a moving time of 3:49. The group crossed the line in 3:36, how gutted was I

Good effort Etape Caledonia folks, closed road event i assume?
Doc you must have been close to my pal Rich (only guy in baggy shorts) he finished in a 3:32. I am more in making around alive territory.

I was at the Schiehallion feed station where you where all stopped and I squeezed past a couple of you guys and the cones to get started again. I was part of the large group until the start of the climb (44 miles in 2:02) where I got dropped straight out the back door. (Not enough training and carrying too much weight). I could not get going at all along the plateau section and stopped for a banana, a few Jaffa cakes and topped up my water bottles. I put a piece of the flapjack in my pocket too incase required. You passed me at 2:41 going downhill and I could not even peddle because the climb took so much out of me. It was not until after Fortinghall that I got my second wind and carried on. My overall time was 4:13 and I easily lost a large chunk of time from the bottom of the Schiehllion climb to the end. 3:49 is still an excellent time considering you punctured and you were not the only one who had the misfortune of a puncture/mechanical. The road surface was a touch rough in places and I could have easily have let out some air to make the ride less jarring. Looking forward to next year though.Doc883 wrote:We had a really strong groiup from Livingston Cycling Club but I had a puncture at 25 miles so lost the group. Did you have your blue and orange Pinarello, because I remember passing one guy who was on my right with one upside down while fixing his puncture?
Steve.
Re: Cycling - NLC
I'm guessing a 'moving' time is using Strava's auto pause rather than being the official time with the puncture stop
