Post by craigieb » Mon Aug 28, 2006 4:01 pm

talking to a couple the guys at spanners and sponges it looks like my hardtop may spend most of its time in the garage so considering this:

nope :D

Wrap the thing in a sheet and stick it under your bed, in the loft, in the garage etc. Mine sits in my 'office' (read place where all the cr@p in my flat goes!). Those things IMO are only necessary where you're storing it in a well-used garage.

Save the ca$h, and book yourself onto a tracknight :thumbsup

I’m with Greg on this one, except I have gone with the high-tec quilt cover option, works better than a sheet cos you can put it inside and it doesn’t fall off.

If you can’t “borrowâ€

I'm a bit of a saddo and bought one off ebay for £75, but it was a genuine lotus one. Different strokes I guess. They do say you shouldn't store it flat, as it stresses the fibreglass(hence the hanging hooks).

sounds a bit odd, considering its 'stored' flat when fitted on your car

on the car, it's mounted as it's supposed to be ie on the correct mounting points, and is supported by the roll bar. On a flat floor, it'll be stressed without the corners being supported by their corresponding mounts etc.

i think.....

sniff, sniff...... smell the BS... ;)

Och, there may be a little truth in that, but if you store it on a soft surface (whack a pillow under it if you're paranoid) then I'm sure it won't get stressed <BG>

You're prob right. As I have a showercap that always goes on the car anyway(obviously not while i'm driving it), then i'll prob never need the hardtop. Will hang on to it for the time being, until I get really broke....

Buying a Hardtop bag, especially the official Lotus one is essential. You will not be able to enjoy the car to its full potential without this accessory. They retail for about £250 but if you can find a secondhand one then snap it up...in fact, there is one advertised here in classifieds
