Lovely dogs 8)

So we lost our lovely yellow lab a couple of months back. :( Real hit to everyone in the family :(

Our choccie lab was pretty mopey and hiding upstairs when we went out. She’d only ever known life with “big sister” around. Thought about a puppy but the age gap would be too big - another couple of years before they became a proper companion.

So to cut a long story short - thanks to the (excellent and very thorough) Dogs Trust, we took a gamble on a 3yr old Lab / German Shepherd cross.

2.5weeks in she is settling well and the two of them are getting on great. She was overweight at 36.8kg - lost 1.5kg already with sensible food and some exercise. Another 1-2kg to lose, but she is a pretty big dug.

Needs proper training (she had zero) but is now walking well on the lead, will sit and give paw, and responds to her name. Super cuddly and great with people. Loves kids and oldies - guess that might have been her family before? My kids love her already.

Day 1 with a permanent stress-related grimace that took several hours to depart.

Just reading this now.
We looked after a 20month old trainee guide dog German shepherd / golden lab cross for 10 weeks. The most intelligent one and best natured dog out of the 7 dogs we have looked after. So sure she can be trained and be great company. Ours was very much German shepherd yet his sister from same litter was much like yours !

Cheers Ian. :D

She is doing well. Down to 31kg after a couple of months, and she's stayed at that for the last year. Recall much improved, but still nowhere near where i'd like it. Part of that is cos we havent put in as much effort here as we could have. Very intelligent dog and super affectionate. She recoils if you move your hand when giving her a row though - was clearly hit by previous owners. The ****s.

Most importantly she's very much part of the family, and is much relaxed by that. Zero regrets.

That boy Fred is a handsome chap. 8)
