All criminals caught.

Good news today Strathclyde's finest announced that all crime in Scotland was solved and all criminals imprisoned.

They did this, not by a press release as one might expect, but by stopping Mrs Pete and questioning her for TWENTY minutes about why her husband's car, which she was driving at the time, had no front plate. I can only presume that this was an appropriate use of 40 minutes of police time because there was no other crime.

Now if he had stopped me it would have been mildly annoying, but it's my fault. It got knocked off by the AA dragging it onto a big yellow truck a couple of months ago and I never got round to putting it back on. TBH it hasn't been used that much since but Mrs Pete has lent the Multipla to some friends who found themselves car-less the day before they were due to go on their summer holiday so she's been driving the Lotus.

Now if they had stopped me, fined me, and lectured me well fair comment. But no, they found a better way to punish me - annoy my wife who will then (rightly ) blame me. Endlessly.

"I told you to put the bloody plate back on that car!" (repeat ad nauseum).

60 QUID (I know "if you can't do the time don't do the crime" but FFS whose side are you on?)

I'm even annoyed by the things she is reportng they said!
("It's clearly not been on the car for ages" they said.
"Yes it bloody has. That's old tape you are looking at." I would have repsonded.)

Do you get points for that or just a fine?

Just a fine - accompanied by a caution that "next time it'll be 3 points".

Although I'm not clear what offence he would be charging me under. Obviously something he feels strongly about being as it is a serious crime with a lot of victims.

It's a pain but it would be worse with points. Frustrating though.

I don't think he can just decide to give me points anyway. More a pain that mrs Pete will be giving out to me!

Nightmare, I know, but you have to recognise where the authorities are coming from on this.

They need front plates on cars so that they can address the holes in the public revenues. No front plate, no scamera or average speed camera income or fines for skipping road tax. Simple as that.

I really feel for Mrs Pete. And also (but slightly moreso) for Mr Pete - who is surely getting it in the neck ;-)

On the positive side, ANPR also helps track down stolen vehicles so we must all count our lucky stars that such systems are there to protect us, thus ensuring good citizens like Mrs Pete are not put through unnecessary angst or trauma... [tongue in cheek mode there in case anyone wasn't watching]

Anyone had problems with smaller 3/4 plates?

Other than at MoT time, nope.

And I can testify that Scamera vans can read 'em just fine :-/

My car had a 3/4 plate when I first got it. Got pulled within the first few weeks of ownership and told to change it. I genuinely didn't know it was illicit.

An Lotus owning cop pulled me for no plate and having it in the boot smashed to bits was no excuse as apparently Lotus now do a new and improved S1 plinth that stops it getting caught on every speed bump. :? His partner (that sounds like it was his gay lover, I don't think it was.) suggested a sticker and was suprised when I mentioned that it was illegal  traffic cops

Anyway I got fined £30 and had the sticker put on. I havn't had any trouble since.

Unbelievable.

A friend's plate has just been put back on after being off for about 3 months and they drove past loads of police without anything being done about it. Sorry to hear your wife got caught by the one with end of month targets still to meet :(

I know that you are not having a rant at the authorities as such and just venting your frustration. I am sure we would all be first to sound off if a kid was knocked down by an a-hole and we were unable to tell the police the reg no. as it had no plate. Now I know that this is a Daily Mail type sensationalism but what I am getting at is if the BiB start to let things like this slip every NED in the country will be flaunting it for the wrong reasons.

I have always fancied a small plate but got used to the full fat one on my S1 being a good guide to stopping me crunch my clam on speed bumps etc. The splitter on the exige will now have to take on that roll.
