I've had it!!!

That's it. I've fecking had it with this bloody car!

When I returned to it last night, the roof had been leaking in the pouring rain. It wasn't actually the soft top. The leak comes from where the windscreen joins the frame. On further inspection, I've found a big blob of sealant there, clearly indicating that it has leaked and been repaired before. Emailed salesman at MMC about it and he completely denies that it's ever leaked in the time they had it as a demo (from new). Lies!

Then, to make things even worse than the fact that the inside of the car was soaked, on the way home tonight, my sidelights, tail lights and interior lights cut out! Obviously, water has leaked into where the buttons for the lights are. Had to drive several miles home with no tail or interior lights. Lucky the headlights were at least still working.

I now can't drive the car and will need to take the train to work. I assume it would be illegal for me to knowingly drive with the lights not working, even if was during the daylight?

I've emailed my MMC salesman and told him that I don't want this repaired. I simply want my money back for the car. I'm willing to take this to court if necessary. That's now a list of 21 issues and faults I've had with the car (see this post: http://www.scottishelises.com/phpbb/vie ... php?t=3268). In several cases, I've been lied to by the Glasgow MMC.

If I get my money back, I don't even know if I'd want to buy another Lotus. This has been a terrible experience and has almost put me completely off what was once my dream car.

I can't put into words how fecking angry I am just now!!!

BTW, my understanding was MMC Glasgow had stopped selling Lotus and were only a service agent, mostly cos they didn't really sell many as people preferred to go to Edinburgh.

Rather than the leak coming in from the soft top roof, it originates from the area where the glass of the windscreen joins the black plastic (?) frame that surrounds the windscreen, just above where the sunvisor is secured to the frame.

Does that make sense?

Yup, they've removed all the Lotus logos since I bought that car. It was their last one and had been a demo car. Therefore thought I was getting a good deal and that I wouldn't have the problems you sometimes get with second hand cars because I expected them to have looked after it. Clearly, I was wrong!

TBH, I'd expect a demo car to have more problems than a 2nd hand car. The reason being a 2nd hand car has been owned by someone who would have (probably) wanted these types of issues sorted. The demo car isn't going to have been used all that much and more-than-likely only in dry weather and for relatively short test drives.

I wouldn't even bother going to MMC Glasgow, go straight to Edinburgh and speak to the service dept. It's nothing to do with sales once you've bought the car and they'll probably not be all that interested. It sounds like the windscreen hasn't been fitted correctly but I've never heard of any leaking like that before.

Cheers Simon. I've been dealing with Edinburgh to get everything fixed so far and it'll ultimately be them that fix the windscreen, but it's Glasgow sales that my complaint is with so I'll still be pursuing that.

It sounds like the windscreen has broken its bond with the surround,I have had this on my car.

I can accepts squeeks etc but sounds like you got a raw deal although, some of your 21 complaints could be cut down a little as T.A.D.T

If Glasgow are now no longer Lotus you will struggle. I can understand your frustration.
If the cars under warranty, stick it in to MMC and leave it there until all problems are ironed out.

I'll drag this back up, as I've really only just read it properly...

MMC glasgow appear to be a waste of time - Edin is the only place to go.

However - please post any dealings in the two threads we've got stuck to the top of the meets forum. We are still trying to get together info to present to MMC management, as evidence of the dreadful state of affairs. Things will only change if we can get off our arses and do something.

Clear it up for me folks, as I must be a bit thick here (and this is addressed to anyone who has issues with MMC Glasgow & Edin) why don't you want to post your complaints?

But the point is, if we want new cars, a lot of us can't/won't drive to Newcastle for the nearest dealer...

I don't get the lethargy about trying to improve the situation with who we have. I don't think a month has gone past recently without a tale of woe from the JM group and they will keep doing it if nothing is done.

I don't think that they are set up to deliver bad service - the majority of situations like this in business occur when checks and balances are insufficient. MMC always used to know the value of a supportive user base and were keen to rectify faults (in the open, at least)

There are still some owners who like the warm feeling of having a FLSH and are prepared to pay (despite what we know about the relative merits of it) It's worth chasing up MMC to make sure that these owners don't get short changed for the price they pay....

I have been offered a 12 month extended warranty (including roadside assistance) and a free geo. Do you guys think I should take this as compensation or should I demand, for example, a free service too?

Well if MMc loose the lotus dealership then maybe someone better might take up the torch. dreadnought might be a decent bet as they have k series experience and are a tvr dealer so probably have a better idea on how to deal with these kind of customers. I feel that most dealerships seem to be dealing with folk that treat cars like fridges it is a domestic appliance that happens to be a status symbol too. yes MMc have the aston dealership but i don't know if an aston customer gets the same bum service.

Most of the winges come from the actual mechanical side of things not the buying and selling side of things But i think this is almost everywhere as they employ YTS muppets on minimum wage and then charge shedloads an hour. A car is a pretty complicated piece of kit these days but sadly the level of training and knowledge of a spanner monkey is miles below what is needed. combine that with the level of person you attract with paying bugger all you are going to get crap service. It is not just MMc it is almost everywhere

so basically "pay peanuts expect monkeys" and dealerships pay peanuts
