S1 values

What's the general consensus as to what 'might' happen with S1 values over the next, say, 5 years?

I have a nagging feeling that they'll rise but maybe that's wishful thinking!

I also think that they will rise in the next 5 years. There is one thing for sure that a very good S1 elise will at the very worst stay flat.

I was looking at a car magazine from 92 when I was in Ray Smith's Audio getting the speakers fitted in the Porsche on Sat. Looked at some Lotus dealer adverts and the only car that had not risen in value since that time was the Lotus Excel. Quite scary to see the costs of the older Lotus's at that time at just a shade over £11k and worth £25-30k now.

Elan SE prices still haven't rallied - I paid £13.5k for my old one in 1998, which is over £19k these days (and it was 8 years old at that point!)...

£10k at the moment will land you a mint S2 Elan - I always wonder if the FWD stigma has held them back...?

S1 Exiges have rocketed - Doesn't seem that long ago you could pick one up for £15k; or a 340R for £16-17k - Not now!

Good S1's will follow suit - The £5k 'HPI clear' cars have long gone, and LoTRDC hoovered up a lots of the sheddy Elises...Surely entry level for an S1 will pass the £10k mark within 5 years?

Classic Car mag always thought so, Ross. And mine just went up 20% this weekend when Iain Arfur Daley Boag commented that one-owner S1s were a bit special

No question that, if you can buy into an S1 now whose core condition is good, then it almost certainly will not drop in nominal value. Whether it keeps up with inflation is another matter. A reasonable annual maintenance fund is important too, so whilst it might be "depreciation-free motoring", it sure won't be cost-free and will probably involve more maint £££ than your average hot hatch. Although show me a 13 year old hot hatch that survives on less than a grand a year in maintenance and I'd be surprised.

Only thing letting the 135 refurb down is the continued use of Koni dampers!

I was going to make a new thread for this, but this seems appropriate.

My friend John Duthie, Duthie Motors, is looking at putting his S1 Elise up for sale, and it is the second one he has had. He has looked after all our cars, including N1 and N3, and there are several locals that have used him for servicing and MOT's for their Elises.

It is a '99 Azure blue S1, absolutely standard apart from S/S exhaust and new shocks. It has MMC's, 63K miles, he has done 2K in the last three years which is why he is selling it, no track days, and will have a service, 12 months MOT, and tax.

If anybody is interested before he advertises it, let me know and I can give more details and pictures.

got to think that clean well cared for cars should rise in value especially after the last few years has seen so many leave these shores?

I have a feeling that, if it wasn't for the whole economic climate thing, that they'd be clearly on the up already.

To me the question is more will they have a sudden raise as the economy recovers, up to the level that maybe they should already be at, or will it be gradual thing..

That said, for me, the most surprising thing is that Vx220 values don't seem to be holding all that steady. I'd have thought that they would level out a little below the S1, and held firm..

It's no big deal Tut, a friendly plug is fine I imagine, but was just surprised .... having said that, you've had little need for Classifieds over the years ... you've kept both your Elises (kind of!)
