Slippery out

Post by Tommy Twist » Sat Nov 03, 2012 1:03 pm

The BM's stability control system intervened twice while out this morning - not totally unexpected on either occasion, I have to say - I wouldn't have been quite so throttle'n'lock-happy had I been driving a mid-engined no-nannies sports car...

Most likely a result of the gritters being out in force across Stirlingshire last night, spreading their dirty business, which has left the roads a bit slick in places this morning. Cold doesn't help much either, naturally...

Yup, was able to waggle the tail on the scooby a few times yesterday. Makes me glad not to be on two wheels. Winter is definately here...

Three cars left the road this morning on the Crieff - Perth at Balgowan
One MX5 roof was shredded and every panel sustained multiple white stripes-when the driver launched it through a barb wire fence!

I thought people were just being very friendly waving and flashing at me .... :D

Would a 50 limit have helped?

In.all seriousness yes.

Our local MP. has just lodged plans to make Perth- Crieff - Lochearnhead a 50mph route mainly because. of the Sunday Biker deaths

How many of those dead bikers were doing 60 or less?

For fear of sounding like an old fart (I love that road myself)..........On some bikes I can hear every gearchange from Crieff to Monzievaird (4 miles) and they are making haste :D
A certain 911 turbo with a Tubi exhaust can be heard until damn near Comrie (7 miles)

The incidents are usually when are car makes a right turn and gets t - boned by a bike because the driver hasn't seen it
My limited biking experience tells me that most motorists do not pay enough attention to mirrors and do not see bikers overtaking them untl they are past etc

In which case I can't see how a 50 limit is going to make the slightest impact?

And it would be interesting to hear if the cars involved in the string of incidents you saw recently were doing > or < 50 at the time...

Slippery out

Scooby understeering today, bike twitched twice on roundabouts yesterday. Temps well above zero, just greasy.

Greasiness was even more noticeable today, even with a reasonably light right foot...

I had actually been running my wretched Bridgestone runflat tyres at fairly high pressures since the summer, in order to reduce tramlining and improve the steering response – an approach that had been working surprisingly well... however, I took a few PSI out today in hope that grip will improve a little! (still above OEM pressures though, at which the tramlining is just too intrusive for me).

Can't believe how little grip the runflats offer up in this weather, and can't wait to bin them... in fact there would be a pretty compelling case for winter tyres on the BM, even in reasonably dry weather, did I not have a nice (!) wee shed for snowy weather (praying it doesn't fall apart on me any time soon!).

I decided yesterday was the day to use my 190bhp motorcycle to take a run into Glasgow... Not sure what led that decision making process... No twitchy moments, but there was zero grip, so just rode like a granny.

Although, that sounds dodgy...

I took the bike out on Saturday - all fine until I was pebble dashed by a gritter - fcuking sore :?

Switched the Europa onto winters yesterday - rides like a limousine, tyres are much softer but much more stable on cold greasy roads.
