I have already put my order in with a xbox Ann for next year.

I discounted upgrading Ann's Kindle to a fire this year because she has motorola xoom2 and I didn't see it offering anything more.

There's some confusion created with Kindle Fire. Don't compare it to a traditional kindle - the one with the e-ink screen. It's just an entry level tablet - a decent one, as I understand. No better for reading books on (ie, not the best) than an iPad, or any other tablet with a TFT screen.

What makes the proper kindle the great reading device it is, is the e-ink screen that acts like paper, has no glare or eyestrain issues that TFTs suffer with. It reflects light, doesn't emit - hence you can read for hours without tiring eyes.

So, I'd not talk about upgrading Kindles to the Fire - it's a different type of product for a different purpose. Amazon have boobed in using the Kindle name, IMO, as it just leads to confusion.

If you're after something like the Kindle Fire I'd go for a Nexus 7

Kitchen aid mixer is deffo chrimbo fodder.
Because they are so bloody heavy it stays out all the time so SWMBO knocks up cakes more often...
Properly old school bit of kit but noisy and pretty crude: but it does what it says on the tin!
It'll outlast me that's for sure...

Wifes Amazon list is full of kitchen stuff, slow cooker, steam pans, coffee machines which is really helpful. Just adding everything to basket  easy.

Verian's list. Very sensible.

Set of darts
Electric frypan
Oral-B electric toothbrush
Bathroom laundry basket (John Lewis sell one that has 2 compartments that allows you to sort washing into darks and whites)
Globe showing star constellations
Recliner chair and stool
