That moment in the morning...

Post by woody » Tue Mar 05, 2013 9:47 am

When you wake up an hour early and it slowly dawns on you that you did just agree to leave your job of 12.5 years the day before with nothing else definate in place. I think it's the 12.5 years bit that's concerning me most. People move jobs all the time; they rarely leave the place I'm at.

It's a redundancy, so I've at least a float for the time being. Have to the end of the month left here and a plan that I've been working on for a while now that may or may not come off. Think there are a few SE'rs in similar positions just now?

If anyone's looking for an ISO 9001 auditor who knows a bit about jet engines and has a mostly unexplored talent to some slight extent in graphic design, give me a shout. :cheers

Oof - knew you were thinking of it, but didn't know you'd pulled the trigger. Indeed mate, new beginnings - all the best for it!

You've got loads of transferable skills and the quality / six sigma stuff goes down a storm in all manner of companies......especially as you seem to be enjoying that side of things more than the stuff that makes your artisan pizza making hands get all oily

It's a brave move but you simply don't get opporchancities like that so i think it's the right move to pull the trigger.

Happy to help you out where i can :thumbsup
Focus ST estate, i3s and more pushbikes than strictly necessary.

Onwards and upwards, mate! :thumbsup.

Check out the Aberdeen engineering scene. I hear tales of gold-paved streets, money-trees and silver plantations...

Have done the same after 13 years. Got confirmation letter on Saturday (holly s**t its real) so last day was Sunday, as quick as that. A decision made is a good decision in my book.

Was told there is quite a lot of offshore gas turbine work in ABZ but not investigated it.

You make your own luck :) :cheers

Time for a swim.

There's an advert up on the Job Post board for machinists at your place I'm sure. It's mostly people who are retiring, but I've heard of a couple of good machinists who may be leaving & not retiring.

10K, were you not at BA? One of the boys has applied for a position there.

Good luck with it all.
From the outside these things always sound "exciting" but I bet there are a few more emotions to go along with that one :thumbsup

End of the month for me as well, only been here since I was 17 so 29 years

Plan is to carry on providing Architectural Services as a sole trader for now. Still have a couple of reasonable sized projects in the pipeline and domestic jobs come along as and when.

Not sure I'd be able to work 'for' someone else but might need to consider teaming up with someone in the long term, we'll see.

All the best to anyone facing this prospect.

Could be opportunity at my place? Not sure how suitable it would be for you but might be worth some thought if your other plans don't work out. Now known as Clydeunion pumps, an SPX brand, formerly Weirs pumps. Good luck on your quest for new opportunities.
